Christ the Redeemer Sanctuary illuminates symbolic orange monument for Garbage Collector's Day.

The Christ the Redeemer monument was illuminated in orange on the evening of Saturday, May 16th, following a celebration presided over by Father Pedro Henrique, the collaborating vicar of the Christ the Redeemer Sanctuary, for Garbage Collector's Day, commemorated on that date, and the 51st anniversary of Comlurb (the city's sanitation company). The Sanctuary also provided a visit for a group of garbage collectors from different Comlurb departments to the Sanctuary itself.

The street sweeper poets Graça Pimenta, who has been with Comlurb for over 20 years, and Bruna Gomes, author of "Leoa Improvável" (Improbable Lioness), as well as the street sweeper writer Valdecir Boareto, who has represented the country at Harvard's Brazil Conference 2024, and the emblematic street sweeper Renato Sorriso, read the prayers during the Blessing. The celebration concluded with an official photo on the steps in front of the monument.

"I've been spending a lot of time in the city with our mayor, Eduardo Cavaliere, and he's been raising some important points. The first point is planning, management, and direction. We bring this directly to our company. We have a lot of planning, management, delivery, and direction. But there's a key point: without our sanitation workers, none of this happens. You are directly involved. You, on the front lines, are the ones who make it happen and who make this company stronger and stronger," said Renato Rodrigues, president of Comlurb, welcoming the sanitation workers, the evening's honorees, directors, and presidential advisors.

"The second point concerns major events. When we organize New Year's Eve or Carnival celebrations, Comlurb [the city's sanitation company] takes over the services, and our sanitation workers are always there, well in advance and with great peace of mind. And lastly, the mayor often says that we only hold accountable those we believe in. It's an honor to be held accountable every day by the city, by our managers, by tourists. Once again, our sanitation workers are there to solve problems. This gives me great peace of mind and great honor to be at the head of this company that delivers so much, that is under a lot of pressure, but that gets things done. So, once again, thank you very much for being part of this company, for being part of so many achievements in this city. Congratulations to Comlurb on its 51st anniversary and congratulations to our sanitation workers on their day," concluded Renato.

Comlurb maintains a long-standing partnership with the Christ the Redeemer Sanctuary. Mountaineering sanitation workers, professionals who receive specialized training and use rappelling techniques to work in hard-to-reach areas, clean the slopes surrounding the monument. They will also support the waste management of the socio-environmental activities of the Cristo Sustentável Consortium.

"I would like to greet all of you who have come tonight for this Thanksgiving celebration so that we can meditate a little on the Word of God and also meditate a little on the important role here in our city of the members of Comlurb and the people who perhaps contribute the most to making our city always wonderful," exclaimed Father Pedro Henrique.
