Structure without an operating license accumulated garbage and compromised the safety of residents and merchants - Disclosure

The Subprefecture of the North Zone II carried out, this Thursday, the removal of an illegal, unlicensed, and abandoned newsstand located on Avenida Dom Hélder Câmara, at the corner of Rua Itamaracá, in Cachambi. The structure, which was no longer engaged in commercial activity, had accumulated a large amount of waste and had been used as shelter by people and for individuals to stay in, compromising safety, the feeling of security, and the conservation of the region.

The operation involved the integrated action of the Secretariat of Public Order (Seop), the Special Operations Coordination (CEOP), the Licensing and Inspection Coordination (CLF), Comlurb, Light, and Águas do Rio. During the action, Comlurb removed the accumulated waste from the site, while Light disconnected the electrical power line from the structure. Teams from Águas do Rio monitored the work to check for the existence of illegal water connections.
According to Douglas Araújo, sub-mayor of the North Zone II, the removal fulfills a demand from the population and represents another step in the ongoing urban planning work being carried out in the region.

– This stall was completely abandoned, generating a lot of dirt and serving as a shelter for criminals to commit thefts on Dom Hélder Câmara Avenue. We cannot allow structures without any social function to continue degrading public spaces and putting the population at risk. Our job is to act in an integrated way to restore more security, cleanliness and organization to the neighborhoods of the North Zone.

The Subprefecture of the North Zone II carries out permanent actions of inspection and urban planning in its neighborhoods, in partnership with municipal bodies and public service concessionaires, to combat irregularities, preserve public spaces and improve the quality of life of the population.
