- Subprefecture of Large Complexes and Comlurb reinforce the organization of garbage disposal in communities
The initiative aims to prevent garbage from being scattered on the streets - Disclosure/City Hall The Subprefecture of Large Complexes, in partnership with Comlurb, is reinforcing the regulation of irregular waste disposal in communities. The work began in Parque Proletário, in Complexo da Penha, where construction is underway to install an ecopoint on Estrada José Rucas.
Two 15 m³ compactors will be installed on site to collect household waste, as well as two 5 m³ multipurpose metal bins to collect rubble, useless goods and branches. The new equipment will prevent waste from being scattered on public roads, and will speed up and make collection more efficient, helping to keep the streets clean, promoting greater dignity and reinforcing the City of Rio's commitment to the population's quality of life.
– We have identified the worsening of irregular waste disposal in low-income communities and this is one of our priorities to be addressed so that the garbage is taken to the permitted points. Our goal is to reduce the negative impacts on public health, prevent the proliferation of rats and insects, and prevent flooding resulting from clogged drains, water contamination and river silting – highlighted the deputy mayor of Grandes Complexos, Marlí Peçanha.
In the Jacarezinho Complex, after a technical inspection by the Subprefecture of Large Complexes, together with community leaders and Comlurb, four new garbage containers were installed on Rua Viúva Cláudio, close to the location known as Buraco do Lacerda.
The area, which was cleaned with water jets, received a large amount of garbage dumped daily on the side of the road, spreading a bad smell and hindering the movement of people and vehicles. Other areas of Jacarezinho are being studied to receive equipment for the proper storage of garbage.
– This year we will invest in better waste management in communities, with an increase in the distribution of large-capacity containers – stated Comlurb president Jorge Arraes.
The Subprefecture of Large Complexes and Comlurb will continue to inspect favelas for the arrival of new equipment, increasingly encouraging residents to adopt the healthy habit of throwing trash in the appropriate place.
