Downtown streets are resurfaced with technology that guarantees durability

The streets surrounding the Capanema Palace, in the city center, have been specially resurfaced using a technology that ensures greater durability: geogrids. The idea is to improve access to the space, which was reopened last month after ten years of inactivity. The paved area covers 26.212 square meters, stretching 1,7 km.

The technology adopted is based on a fiberglass mesh with high-strength polyester filaments. This material was applied between the layers of the asphalt pavement, which will minimize the propagation of cracks, significantly increasing durability.

Tree collars (around the base of the trunk) were also cleaned, Portuguese stones on the sidewalks were replaced and caps and grates in drains were replaced.

The work, under the responsibility of the Municipal Conservation Department, is an offshoot of the Smooth Asphalt program, which has already requalified around 930 km of roads, in 350 public places in the city.

Streets covered by the geogrid:

– Graça Aranha Avenue – in the following sections: between Nilo Peçanha Avenue and Araújo Porto Alegre Street, and between Araújo Porto Alegre Street and Santa Luzia Street

– Santa Luzia Street – section between Rio Branco Avenue and President Antônio Carlos Avenue

– Araujo Street, Porto Alegre

– Calógeras Avenue: section between Santa Luzia Street and Beira Mar Avenue
