Nighttime operation in Ipanema collects a ton of debris and seizes structures on the sidewalks.

The South Zone Subprefecture and the Local Executive Management (GEL) of Lagoa carried out an urban order operation on Friday night (May 22nd) on Teixeira de Melo and Farme de Amoedo streets in Ipanema. The action resulted in the seizure of commercial structures obstructing the public sidewalk, the towing of an irregular vehicle, and the removal of approximately one ton of debris from the sidewalks. A commercial establishment was fined R$ 2.986,08 for improper occupation with tables and chairs.

The inspection was supported by the Municipal Secretariat of Public Order (Seop), the Municipal Guard, and inspectors from the Licensing and Inspection Coordination. The main objective was to clear the sidewalks to guarantee accessibility and the right of pedestrians to come and go in the region.

Among the items collected on Teixeira de Melo Street were three tailless donkeys, a shopping cart, and a bicycle. An abandoned Kombi van with irregular documentation, which was being used as a merchandise storage facility, was also towed away by the officers.

The sub-mayor of the South Zone, Pedro Angelito, stated that monitoring public spaces is a constant priority for the local administration.

"This is yet another integrated urban planning operation to make the city more organized, which will provide a greater sense of security for the population. We are intensifying actions in the South Zone and will continue to act firmly to clear the public sidewalks," said the deputy mayor.

During the mobilization, teams from the Integrated Territorial Actions Coordination (CATI) of SEOP provided support to the Municipal Department of Social Assistance, which carried out outreach to shelter homeless people circulating in the area.
