Operation Summer: SEOP and GM seize irregular products and sound systems on Rio's beaches.

The Municipal Secretariat of Public Order (Seop) and the Municipal Guard continued their urban order enforcement actions, inspections, and crackdowns on illegal parking and parking violations this past weekend (January 17th and 18th) as part of Operation Summer. The actions resulted in the seizure of over 80 sound systems on Rio's beaches, which is prohibited, and also led to the confiscation of over 11 tons of illegal goods from the sand and boardwalk. Among the main items were unlicensed street vendor carts, glass bottles, barbecues, and cargo carts. More than 50 electric motorcycles and mopeds were towed for being illegally parked on the boardwalk.

Operation Summer, launched by the Rio de Janeiro City Hall on September 05, 2025, involves more than 1.000 agents. The operations are aided by drones, and agents from the Municipal Secretariat of Public Order (Seop) operate from the Operations and Resilience Center (COR-Rio) to guide agents working in the streets. In a single location in Copacabana, municipal employees seized five electric motorcycles that were being rented without any authorization on Avenida Atlântica. The person responsible was charging R$ 70 for a 30-minute ride.

The teams from the Integrated Territorial Actions Coordination (CATI) approached a total of 518 people this past weekend alone. The actions were carried out with the support of social workers, and 27 citizens accepted municipal shelter. Another 123 people had their criminal records checked, and four were taken to police stations. Agents also seized more than 80 knives or sharp objects and items for drug use. In Praça Júlio de Noronha, in Leme, also on Saturday, agents dismantled an open-air junkyard with scales on site. All the material was seized, and those responsible were taken to the police station.

On Avenida Nossa Senhora de Copacabana, agents from the Rio + Seguro Program arrested a man on the corner of Rua Dias da Rocha after he attacked people who refused to help him with money for food. He also broke the glass of a bus stop and tried to attack more people with stones and a piece of wood. He was restrained, handcuffed, and taken to the 12th Police Station (Copacabana) on Sunday afternoon.

The actions of the SEOP (Municipal Secretariat of Public Order) and the GM (Municipal Guard) also had repercussions in other parts of the city due to events at Marina da Glória, a football match at São Januário stadium, and the Glória Fair. In total, SEOP and the GM issued more than 1.050 fines for various traffic violations. The teams also removed 66 vehicles parked illegally. The GM agents involved in the operation distributed approximately 300 identification bracelets on the beaches and also in the city's parks. Thanks to this service, it was possible to reunite three children and teenagers with their guardians.

In addition to the coastline in the South and Southwest zones, Operation Summer is also being carried out in Madureira Mestre Monarco Park, Deodoro Radical Park, Oeste Park, Realengo Jornalista Susana Naspolini Park, Rita Lee Olympic Park, and Pavuna Carioca Park; as well as the coastline of Ilha do Governador and Ilha de Paquetá. The operation involves the Secretariats of Public Order (Seop), CET-Rio, the Municipal Guard, and the Municipal Secretariat of Transportation.

Prison in Leme

Agents from the Rio Municipal Guard arrested a man for assaulting two women, one of whom was a 16-year-old girl, in Leme. The arrest was made on Saturday inside a tourist bus returning to the state of Minas Gerais. The 37-year-old man is the victims' uncle and, according to their mother, had been showing signs of being agitated since leaving Minas Gerais. The case was registered as assault at the 12th Police Station (Copacabana).
