International Book Biennial: City Hall stand hosts Paixão de Ler, focusing on black literature, and other actions

Rio City Hall will have a stand at the International Book Biennial - Press Release An arena to welcome artists, parents, educators, researchers, scholars, storytellers, reading mediators and authors. The City of Rio will have a stand to call its own at the 2021 XX International Book Biennial, which returns to Riocentro, in Barra, from December 3 to 12. There will be ten days of 100% literary programming, bringing together all segments of the arts, as well as literacy and orality.
In the space – measuring one hundred square meters – the Municipal Department of Culture is holding the 29th edition of the Paixão de Ler festival, inviting names from black literature that deal with identities, representation and ancestry, among other elements. The arena format encourages eye contact, expanding the range of exchanges. The experience of contact.
With capacity for up to one hundred people, the stand will also be occupied by actions from the secretariats of Women, Youth and Government and Public Integrity (Fundação Planetário, RioFilme, Sexual Diversity and Racial Equality), which alternate in the opening hours: from 10 am to 22 pm.
The arena's theme is Passion for Reading, which will have two fixed times, always from Thursday to Sunday: 17 pm and 19 pm. The opening will be this Friday (3/12), at 17 pm, with a tribute to the writer from Rio de Janeiro Sonia Rosa, known for her affective black literature for children and young people.
One of the greatest national references in black literature, Sonia Rosa has published more than 50 books, among which the collection Lembranças africanas (started in 2004; Pallas Editora) stands out, for which she received the highly recommended seal from FNLIJ. Black protagonism is the main focus of the writer in her short stories for children. In O menino Nito (her debut book), Sonia tells a love story in which the protagonist is a black boy.
After the Biennial, the Paixão de Ler festival will be held at the Museum of Afro-Brazilian History and Culture (Muhcab), in Gamboa, and at 16 other cultural facilities of the SMC, from 16/19 to 12/XNUMX. The theme will be Black Children's and Young Adult Literature and Anti-Racist Narratives. The program will include storytelling, literary recitals, literary and musical soirees, shows, samba circles, exhibitions, dramatized readings, meetings with authors, lectures with writers, reading circles, among other attractions.

JUVRio – Special Secretariat for Rio de Janeiro Youth. Artistic interventions followed by debates, always from 15 pm to 16 pm, on the following themes: prison system (days 5 and 8); youth and the right to dream (6 and 7); sustainability and the jobs of the future (9); art breaking barriers (10 and 11); and perspectives on Brazilian children's and young adult literature (12).
Special Secretariat for Women's Policies and Promotion. From 4 to 12/12, always from 11 am to noon. Dialogues between generations: Black Griot writers and artists discuss their life stories and artistic productions, with mediation by women from the new generations. At the end, the audience participates in a creative writing dynamic to produce a tweet about the desired reality for the future. The five best tweets of the day will be published on the Women's Secretariat's social networks, with the aim of encouraging the promotion of more communicative voices.
Executive Coordination for the Promotion of Racial Equality. From 13:14 pm to 5:7 pm, on the 8th, 9th, 11th, 12th, 12th and XNUMXth of December: reading circle and participants' reactions to stories from African and Afro-Brazilian culture; workshop on atabaques and orixás with rhythmic writing; conversation circle with children from terreiros about their experiences inside and outside of school; workshop on introduction to the Yoruba language; workshop on maps of the routes of the African diaspora and workshop on Yoruba traditions in dance-theater.
Planetarium Foundation of the City of Rio de Janeiro. There will be six meetings, always from 16pm to 17pm, on the following topics: planet Rio; decolonial astronomy; how young astronomers are born; Ecio Salles library – a space to think about the city; my first book and return to normality.
Executive Coordination of Sexual Diversity. From 6 to 8/12, always at 19 pm, with meetings and debates on various topics.
Tribute/Sonia Rosa: in favor of reflection on diversity
A retired teacher and pedagogue graduated from UERJ, Sonia Rosa has a master's degree in Ethnic-Racial Relations from CEFET/RJ. The writer advocates the urgent need to use books that reflect the country's cultural diversity in the classroom. She is currently dedicated to work related to racial literacy, with books in many public schools. Some of them have been published in France, French-speaking African countries, Italy, Galicia, Mexico, Canada and the USA. This year, her short story book, Três histórias de encanto, was a finalist for the Jabuti and Zum zum Zumbi was selected for the UN library.
Recently, she launched Chama o sol Matias (published by Oficina da Raquel), with illustrations by Camilo Martins; a new edition of Amores e artista (Semente Editorial), with illustrations by Marilia Pirillo, and the series composed of Antonia quer brincar, Antonia quer andar and Antonia quer dormir, illustrated by Luna, which is published by Pallas Editora.
