The 2022 edition of the program was launched at an event at the Museum of Tomorrow at the end of April - Beth Santos/City Hall of Rio Registration for Foca – Promoting Rio de Janeiro Culture began this Monday (23/5). This year, the program will make R$32 million available to more than 400 proposals. According to the municipal secretary of Culture, Marcus Faustini, the amount represents a 60% increase in the development program, which distributes funds directly to artists and/or producers. Last year, the amount was R$20 million. To register, simply access this site. Among the new features of the notice is the inclusion of new lines and categories, including one specifically for festivals.
– This increase in resources will allow us to support more projects throughout the city. And with robust support for festivals. Supporting festivals in Rio helps tourism, professionalizes culture, and offers cultural opportunities. This is a special moment for our department, in which we confirm that in Rio de Janeiro we have policies for culture. And there is no persecution. We are committed to the recovery of culture – emphasized Faustini.
Once again, there will be a live broadcast to assist with registration and, throughout the period of the call for applications, the Department of Culture will promote a mobilization campaign with workshops in peripheral territories and favelas – Foca no Território, starting in Santa Cruz, in the West Zone, on Saturday (28/05). In addition, there will be weekly meetings to answer questions at the department itself and to provide assistance to more vulnerable groups.
416 proposals will be considered. Value ranges: 25 to 400 thousand. Instead of two, there will be four lines:
Line 1 (language): theater, dance, circus, anti-racist, literature, childhood, music, LGBT, urban arts, popular culture, visual arts, public art and annual activity plan (NGOs and companies that work continuously). R$ 18 million.
Line 2 (territorial distribution): 140 cultural and artistic agents and groups residing in APs 3, 4 and 5 and favelas in APs 1 and 2. Individuals and legal entities. R$ 6 million.
Line 3: 35 projects in the format of festivals. The goal is to reach 200 by 2024, one per week. R$ 7 million. Festival generates exchange, professionalizes production because it has a team, is of interest to the market and the media, and generates income and jobs.
Line 4: 40 research, artistic creation and innovation projects. R$ 1 million.
– We need to go back to being a city of artistic innovation. We are the city where passinho was born. We have bate-bola. We are a city of stand-up from the favelas – highlighted the secretary.
In 2021, Foca received 5.478 applications. More than half of those approved (51,54%) came from the North and West zones of Rio, that is, the suburbs. More than 300 proposals were accepted and some of them are already part of Rio's cultural calendar. Also last year, of the 2.671 applicants as individuals or microentrepreneurs, 50,3% declared themselves black or brown and 47,8% were women. This year's goal is to reach ten thousand applicants. There are 45 days for applications.
