João Bosco performs free show at the opening of the new Areninha Cultural João Bosco in Vista Alegre

A modern and more accessible art and culture space for the people of Rio. The new Areninha Cultural João Bosco, in Vista Alegre, in the city's North Zone, will be opened to the public next Monday (25/9). To mark the opening, there's nothing better than having the patron João Bosco singing for free on that stage, where renowned names from theater and music have performed.

The show will start at 18:30 pm, and the repertoire will include classics from the career of the singer, guitarist and composer from Minas Gerais, such as “Papel machê”, “Quando o amor Acontece”, “O bêbado e a equilibrista” and “Corsário”, as well as some of the new songs from his most recent album, “Abricó de macaco” (2020). With a career spanning over 50 years, the singer is one of the greatest authors in Brazilian music, a veteran in getting the audience to sing and celebrate along.

Deep transformation

João Bosco was the second cultural arena in Rio to be transformed into a small arena by the Rio Municipal Department of Culture. The first was in Santa Cruz, in the West Zone: Areninha Carioca Sandra Sá. By 2024, the City Hall – via the Department of Culture – will transform all of its arenas into small arenas. The goal is to provide greater accessibility, dialogue with the local area, and infrastructure improvements. The modernization process will also include the arenas Hebert Vianna, in Maré; Terra, in Guadalupe; Carlos Zéfiro, in Anchieta; and Jacob do Bandolim, in Jacarepaguá. The cost is R$2,5 million for each arena.

The works are included in the Cultura do Amanhã (Culture of Tomorrow), the largest program for the recovery, modernization and requalification of municipal cultural facilities. To transform João Bosco into a small arena, it was necessary to replace the tarpaulin with a structure made of thermo-acoustic material, ensuring greater quality for both the public and the artist, with an air-conditioned environment and acoustic insulation, since tarpaulins are usually installed in residential areas. In addition, the structure provides greater accessibility, with the installation of a tactile map.
