Rio City Hall holds a week of fun and art to celebrate Children's Day

The Rio City Hall, through the Municipal Department of Culture, has prepared a series of special programs for Children's Day. Theater, circus, storytelling and lots of clowning around are among the activities that promise to liven up the week for the little ones, online and in person, respecting the Golden Rules imposed by the city at this time of resumption of economic activities.

On Saturday (10), the Jardim das Artes event for the whole family begins. The free program at Cidade das Artes will run from the 11th to the 12th, with dance classes, theater with Cia Influxo, a circus performance, storytelling and a special appearance by Orquestra do Amanhã. The event will take place in an open area and will follow all the safety procedures set out by the Health Surveillance Agency.

The public will be seated in lounges with a limit of up to six people each, intended for groups of the same household and/or family members. Spaces can be reserved through the Ingresso Certo app. Jardim das Artes was 100% designed and planned for fun, but above all, the protection of the public and professionals involved. There will be temperature measurement at the entrance to the event and several sanitization points, in addition to security control stations in the hallways and at the entrances to the bathrooms. Beverages and food will be sold through the app. Activities will take place from 9 am to 13 pm.

On the 12th, the program will be even more special with online activities from Lona Terra (Guadalupe), with clowning; the show “Só sei que foi assim” (I only know it was like this), from Arena Chacrinha (Pedra de Guaratuba) and “Pé de livro” (Book Foot), from Lona da Maré, a storytelling program aimed at children and young people. Throughout the week, Lona da Maré will also offer capoeira, tambourine and popular dance workshops.

Starting on the 13th, the Rio Art Museum (MAR) will be hosting a series of discussions and workshops on education, childhood, and art. The live broadcast “Anti-racist education and representation in childhood”, which will take place at 17 pm on MAR’s YouTube channel, will kick off the program. On the 15th, from 14 pm to 16 pm, the Creation workshop: Supermarket will take place, reflecting on how superheroes and heroines are born. At 17 pm, there will be a chat about “Education in Art Museums and Childhood”. Closing the activities, on the 17th, from 14 pm to 16 pm, the creation workshop “A viagem da menina rio” will take place, inspired by the universe of the exhibition “Aline Motta – memória, viagem e água”, a first for Rio de Janeiro, which will be held in the first pavilion of the Museum.

As the opening of the MAR é lugar de criança program, we will promote an online meeting between educators, aiming at the debate and sharing of anti-racist educational actions and methodologies. The conversation also aims to discuss artistic practices that articulate notions of representation for children. The activity is recommended for children, their guardians and educators.

How are superheroes and heroines born? Based on the superhero paintings featured in the “Pardo é Papel” exhibition by artist Maxwell Alexandre, we will invite children and their guardians to create their own superheroes, also using cartoons and supermarket shelves as inspiration. A partnership between the Rio Art Museum – MAR, the Ceará Museum of Contemporary Art – MAC Dragão do Mar and the University of Ceará Art Museum – MAUC, the online meeting aims to contribute to the discussion on early childhood access to art and museums. With the participation of Saulo Moreno (MAUC) and Maria Rita Valentim (MAR), the activity mediated by Vinicius Scheffer (MAC Dragão) will discuss art education processes in museums and policies for access to early childhood.

17/10: 14pm to 16pm – Creation Workshop: the journey of the girl from Rio

With educators Fernando Porto and Maria Rita Valentim

This creative workshop dedicated to Children's Week is loosely inspired by the universe of the exhibition “Aline Motta – memory, journey and water”. Through a story performed live by educators Fernando Porto and Maria Rita Valentim for children, we will learn about the journey of the Girl-River in search of memories of her waters. Gather your family and come recreate, with objects found at home, the experience of feeling the wind, flowing like the waters of a river and resting in the lap of a lake. Set aside objects such as sheets, pillows, a water sprayer and anything else you can imagine to follow the story of this girl who wants to know her origins. A workshop to watch, listen to and feel from home.

Workshop recommended for families with children between 3 and 5 years old.
