Teatro Carlos Gomes has a musical performance on the day of vaccination against Covid-19

Closed since the beginning of 2020, the Carlos Gomes Municipal Theater, in Praça Tiradentes, has become a stage for vaccination against Covid-19 in grand style. The launch of the new location was enlivened by a musical performance by the duo Marepô, formed by the brothers Petro and Margô, from Ilha do Governador. The ceremony was attended by municipal secretaries Daniel Soranz (Health) and Marcus Faustini (Culture), as well as federal deputy Marcelo Calero, who got vaccinated and announced a parliamentary amendment to contribute to the renovation of the cultural facility, which will be 150 years old in 2022.

 

– Today is an important day to celebrate and also because, as a federal deputy, I announce a parliamentary amendment to reform this space, on a day when the people of Rio gain a boost to take care of their health and culture, which is their very identity – said Marcelo Calero.

 

 

The Secretariat of Government and Public Integrity, through the General Coordination of International Relations and Cooperation, has partnered with the NGO Core to expand vaccination against Covid-19 in Rio. The organization is currently handling the logistics of immunization, in support of the SUS, at the following locations: Olympic Park (Barra), Miécimo da Silva Gymnasium (Campo Grande) and the Portela (Oswaldo Cruz) and Mocidade (Padre Miguel) sports courts.

 

– Since January, when Mayor Eduardo Paes’ administration began, there has been a desire to speed up vaccination, the main impetus for the resumption of culture in the city. This is one of the city’s main theaters, and it will be fully renovated in the first half of next year, with a restaurant, coworking space… So, it is emblematic to have as the last activity before the start of the works, an action in defense of life – said the municipal secretary of Culture, Marcus Faustini.

 

 

Carlos Gomes was not closed, but closed for use. The current management, which took office in January of this year, found, among other problems, termite infestation, damaged stage lighting, flaws in the general paintwork, lack of maintenance of machinery and elevator, and the need for renovation of the floor and bathrooms.
