The City of Rio will showcase innovations and technologies that are being used in public policies for the city of Rio de Janeiro during Rio Innovation Week, which begins this Tuesday (03/10). There will be three spaces for innovation actions and debates covering almost 3 m². The Impact for Change pavilion, with 2.700 m², organized by the Municipal Secretariat of Science and Technology (SMCT), in partnership with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, will discuss the use of new technologies to reduce inequalities and develop approaches for knowledge development. At Armazém 4, Invest.Rio, the municipal agency for attracting and promoting investments, will be present with the stand “Rio: the best place to live, work and invest”, with the aim of boosting business and promoting innovation in the city. The Rio Operations and Resilience Center (COR) will have a stand in the Society 5.0 Sector, at Armazém, where participants will be able to have an immersive experience at COR, a world reference.

– The city of Rio de Janeiro is consolidating itself as the capital of innovation and technology in Latin America. Rio Innovation Week is yet another major technology event that we are hosting. And it will continue to be that way from now on. We want to attract investments, companies, events and encourage young people to think about a technological future. Our administration as City Hall is focusing heavily on innovation and technology. We have programs that develop skills in this area and help people enter this job market. – highlighted Mayor Eduardo Paes.

The Impact for Change pavilion will host civil society organizations, universities, scientific institutions and dozens of guest speakers. In addition to organizing this space, in an initiative to democratize access to information and innovation, SMCT distributed 10 free tickets. In this way, different audiences will have access to the event: students from Naves do Conhecimento, students from other City Hall projects, public university quota holders, education employees, science communicators and researchers, cultural workers and members of civil society organizations and social movements.

Also in the same space, the Rio de Janeiro Youth Secretariat will have interactive stations inspired by the courses offered by the Youth Spaces. Visitors will be able to try out and learn how these public facilities work. Ten professionals who teach technology courses for young people from favelas will be mobilized. Notebooks, DJ tables, drones, 3D printers, virtual reality glasses and robotics equipment (Arduino and sensors) will be available.

The Rio G20 Committee, responsible for organizing events – throughout 2024, in the city of Rio – linked to the meeting of the twenty largest economies in the world, will also have a stand in the Impact for Change pavilion. The space will offer an opportunity for the public to learn more about the importance of the G20 on the international stage.

At Armazém 4, Invest.Rio will boost business and promote innovation in the city. There will be a demonstration of innovative projects created by the Rio Municipal Secretariat for Economic Development, Innovation and Simplification (SMDEIS), to which Invest.Rio is affiliated. The highlight of the stand is the Sandbox.Rio Corner, a space that allows companies to test innovative products, services and processes in the city of Rio. A land and air drone will be presented, which will soon be circulating around the city. SMDEIS will also bring 100 young people from the Programadores Cariocas project, which should train 2024 people in programming languages by the end of 3.

In addition to these booths, Invest.Rio is sponsoring Open Innovation Week 15 years (Oiweek), the largest open innovation event in the country, which brings together innovation professionals to share knowledge, co-create solutions and generate business opportunities in innovation. Over the four days of the event, at Armazém 5, 2.500 open startups will be present, including 2 Brazilian and 500 international, in addition to XNUMX corporations with open innovation programs and challenges.

At this same stand, the Conservation Department has set up a totem for visitors to have an augmented reality experience and bring the population closer to the statues of Carlos Drummond de Andrade, Noel Rosa, Pixinguinha, Dorival Caymmi and Luiz Gonzaga. The Monuments Rio website will also be launched, featuring other monuments and fountains in Rio.

The Rio Operations and Resilience Center (COR) will have a booth in the Society 5.0 Sector, in Warehouse 3. The booth's concept is to provide participants with an immersive experience in the city's operations center, which is a world reference. The space will replicate the COR's Situation Room, the location responsible for monitoring the city. A large screen will simulate the Situation Room's video wall, and visitors will be able to see exactly what is being monitored on Rio's City Hall cameras.

At the COR stand, there will also be an event by the company Eletromidia, which has set up a reproduction of the “Abrigo Amigo” project, an urban piece of furniture that transmits information about the city, produced by COR. The shelter will have an electronic service that helps protect people, especially women, from dangerous and vulnerable situations when they are alone waiting for transportation.

The Municipal Department of Education will present the Technological Educational Gymnasiums. Teachers and students will prepare games based on characters and environments from literary works, showing that it is possible to combine technology with the pages of books. The GETs were created to enhance the development of new skills and abilities in students. They are part of a new school model, a hub of innovation, that fosters the development of 21st century skills, through the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) approach, project-based learning, hands-on activities (maker culture) and resources that promote digital culture and computational thinking.
