- Rio sees deflation in food prices in the first half of 1
Inflation in Rio in the first half of 2023 was 2,5%. The result was below the Brazilian average, which was 2,9%, according to the Broad Consumer Price Index (IPCA). The result in the first six months of the year is below the Central Bank's inflation target of 3,25% per year. The data is from IBGE and was compiled by the Municipal Secretariat for Economic Development, Innovation and Simplification (SMDEIS).
In the home food sector, which corresponds to more than 15% of the IPCA, the Metropolitan Region of Rio showed deflation of 0,5% in the first half of 2023, against a stabilization of prices in Brazil (0,1% variation), in the same period.
Among the highlights in Rio, during this period, we can mention the 6,7% drop in meat prices; 6,0% in fruit prices; 2,7% in butter prices; and 0,8% in cheese prices.
