Rio City Hall launches the Compre.Rio sales platform to boost the solidarity economy in the city

The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Department of Economic Development, took a significant step towards strengthening solidarity economy enterprises in the city by launching the Compre.Rio sales platform this Thursday (28/03). This innovative initiative will allow entrepreneurs in the sector to have the opportunity to sell products easily and affordably on the internet, without paying fees.

The technical cooperation agreement that makes the platform viable was signed this Thursday, at the City Palace, with the participation of the mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paes, and the secretary of Economic Solidarity Development, Diego Zeidan.

– We have to understand that the digital revolution is here, it is not a business of the future. The existing platforms, which allow us to eliminate intermediaries in relationships between people, were very smart and used technology to do this intermediation and make a profit. But if you can do this directly, without charging a fee, and if this value can be distributed between those who are producing and buying, that is much better – said Eduardo Paes.

The platform is intuitive and user-friendly, allowing solidarity economy workers to sell their products conveniently and efficiently. As it is online, the initiative also promotes digital inclusion and enables businesses in the sector to be trained to sell online, facilitating access to virtual markets.

– Compre.Rio is a platform that brings small producers closer to consumers in general. It generates more income and more sales for small business owners, increasing the revenue of each business and the quality of life of the merchant. It provides more business and sales opportunities. Entrepreneurs register on the site, upload their products to sell and immediately find consumers – said Diego Zeidan.

A craftswoman for over five years, with the solidarity economy as her main source of income, Maria Eulália Almeida Melo says that the online sales platform is an infinite field for entrepreneurs:

– We hope that this initiative will be very successful, that it will take our art to new places, enhance the value of craftsmanship and increase our sales. We have a good audience at fairs, but it is limited. Today, online sales are gaining a lot of space, almost dominating. For the craftsman, who does his work with so much love and care, this is an infinitely great novelty and makes us very happy, it creates an expectation to learn more and show what we do, to show the value of craftsmanship and the value of the craftsman.

By boosting local commerce, the platform also aims to foster income and employment generation. And, through strategic advertising campaigns promoted by the City of Rio, the project will also reinforce the visibility and recognition of solidarity economy products, expanding market opportunities.

To carry out the project, a technical cooperation agreement was signed between the City of Rio, through the Secretariat for Economic Solidarity Development, and the Maricá Development Company (Codemar). In addition, the Post Office will be a partner in the distribution of the platform's products, facilitating consumers' access to the products offered.

– The launch of a modern, innovative tool that will serve the solidarity economy, artisans, organic producers and all those who sometimes face the barriers of large marketplace tools is a great goal – emphasizes the president of Codemar, Hamilton Lacerda.

Superintendent of the Post Office, Paulo Penha, emphasizes that the project has everything to be successful:

– This platform is dynamic, within market standards and at zero cost to the local artisan and merchant. We will be the logistics arm, with quality and on-time deliveries.
