The neighborhoods that make up the Lagoa Local Executive Management (GEL) (Gávea, Ipanema, Jardim Botânico, Lagoa, Leblon and São Conrado) concentrate 148,7 inhabitants, equivalent to 2,4% of the population of the city of Rio de Janeiro. The region also brings together 10,9 companies and 100,5 formal workers, corresponding to 7,5% of Rio's companies and 3,8% of the municipality's formal employment.

The data is part of the study "Economic Panorama of GEL Lagoa", prepared by the Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Municipal Secretariats of Economic Development (SMDE) and Government Coordination (SMCG), with GEL Lagoa.

In the distribution of companies by neighborhood, Ipanema concentrates the largest share, with 41,2% of the total, followed by Leblon (30,0%), Gávea (10,5%), Jardim Botânico (8,4%), Lagoa (6,4%) and São Conrado (3,5%). Regarding formal workers, Ipanema also leads, with 38,3% of the total, followed by Leblon (23,3%), Gávea (15,1%), Jardim Botânico (13,8%), Lagoa (5,5%) and São Conrado (4,0%).

– The Lagoa GEL region encompasses some of the city's most dynamic neighborhoods and boasts a diversified economy, with a strong presence in the commerce, services, food, tourism, and health sectors. The study offers a detailed portrait of the region's economic activity and reinforces the importance of qualified information to guide public policies and stimulate Rio's economic development – highlights Osmar Lima, Municipal Secretary of Economic Development.

The five main groups of economic activities, classified according to the National Classification of Economic Activities (CNAE), account for 80,5% of companies and 70,3% of formal jobs in the region. These are: Administrative Activities and Support Services (33,8% of companies and 18,3% of workers); Trade and Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles (18,3% and 15,9%); Accommodation and Food Services (9,6% and 14,3%); Other Service Activities (4,8% and 11,2%); and Human Health and Social Services (14,0% and 10,8%).

– This detailed diagnosis is an indispensable tool for the city's strategic planning. Combining the socioeconomic potential of such dynamic neighborhoods with the structure of the Local Executive Management offices allows us to coordinate cross-sectoral actions between departments, ensuring that government priorities translate into efficient and integrated deliverables at the local level – emphasizes the Municipal Secretary of Government Coordination, Edson Menezes.

The average real income of GEL Lagoa workers is R$ 5,5. Therefore, the annual wage bill for the region, the sum of salaries paid to formal workers, reaches R$ 6,6 billion, equivalent to 3,5% of the total wage bill for all workers in Rio de Janeiro.

– The Economic Panorama of GEL Lagoa is an essential tool for understanding the reality of our neighborhoods and planning the future of the city. This data, which reveals the economic and social profile of the region, is fundamental for guiding and directing more effective public policies. The diversity of activities and the economic strength of Lagoa demonstrate the strategic role that our neighborhoods play in the development of Rio de Janeiro – highlights the local executive manager of Lagoa, Leonardo Fernandes.

The distribution of the population among the neighborhoods shows that Leblon and Ipanema concentrate the largest population contingents, with 37,7 and 37,4 inhabitants, respectively. Next are Lagoa (18,7) and Jardim Botânico (15,9), while Gávea (14,2) and São Conrado (9,7) register the smallest populations in the group.

Local Executive Management (GEL) – It is a basic territorial-administrative unit of the Rio de Janeiro City Hall. Created by Rio Decree No. 48.451, of January 18, 2021, each unit is headed by a Local Executive Manager. Currently, the municipality has 73 GELs.
