The Center should be fully operational by the second half of the year. Photo: Marcelo Piu Mayor Eduardo Paes and the World Economic Forum's Latin America Director, Marisol Argueta de Barillas, signed an agreement on Monday (02/06) to install the World Economic Forum's Affiliated Center for Artificial Intelligence and Energy in the city, which will be set up at Porto Maravalley, in the Port Region of Rio. Focused on research into Artificial Intelligence, datacenters and energy transition, it will be called the Affiliated Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution in Rio de Janeiro (C4IR Rio).
– The World Economic Forum is one of the most respected organizations in the world, which debates major issues and major changes in the global economy. And it has a network of offices spread across the world. Here we are going to have what we call the fourth industrial revolution – Eduardo Paes proudly states.
The mayor of Rio highlighted the installation of the Center precisely in Porto Maravalley, an innovation hub that has established itself as a reference in Brazil: “We have the entire ecosystem of startup companies here. There is nothing better than this place to welcome them.”
According to the mayor, the Center should be fully operational by the second half of the year. The cost of implementation is 3 million dollars over three years, with one million each year:
– This is an alliance of a relationship that Rio de Janeiro has been trying to build with the Forum for so long, so that the city becomes the preferred destination for those who make the World Economic Forum what it represents – he highlighted.
Alongside the deputy mayor, Eduardo Cavaliere, and the municipal secretary of Economic Development, Osmar Lima, the mayor signed the agreement with the director for Latin America of the World Economic Forum, Marisol Argueta de Barilla, who praised Rio's commitment to innovation:
– With our Fourth Revolution project, we have identified, together with Mayor Paes and Deputy Mayor Cavaliere, that Rio has this vision. The city has all the factors that will make this project a success. We are very confident that the Fourth Revolution Center here will bring benefits to the economy, people and the planet.
Connection with the Rio AI City project
The Fourth Revolution Center directly addresses the “Rio AI City” project, which aims to create the largest data center hub in Latin America and one of the ten largest in the world in Rio, with infrastructure focused on sustainable technology.
– What Rio is saying is: we have the best conditions. We have high-quality human capital, submarine cables connecting with Europe, Africa and the United States, and we have abundant, clean energy. And this is yet another asset to consolidate Rio as the capital of artificial intelligence – said Mayor Eduardo Paes.
