Carioca Street gains another brewery.

Carioca Street continues to take shape as Rio's first beer hub. The "Reviver Rua da Cerveja" (Revive Beer Street) program, created by the Rio de Janeiro City Hall through the Municipal Secretariat of Economic Development to boost the revitalization of the city center along with other projects, will see the opening of another brewery this Friday, December 19th. Arkan Beer joins the other five establishments already open on the street: Vírus Bier, Martelo Pagão, Piedade, Búzios, and Tio Ruy, the latter two under the Cotovelo brand.

– We are closing out 2025 with yet another inauguration, in a project that is so important for the City of Rio. This is because the municipality has been making several efforts to revitalize the central region of the city, attracting residents and creating leisure and cultural options. In addition to benefiting the people of Rio, Rua da Cerveja, which is undergoing requalification work, will also become a tourist hub in the city – celebrated Osmar Lima, Municipal Secretary of Economic Development.

The new brewpub features 10 taps of draft beers in styles such as Pilsner, IPA, and Red Lager, and can seat 70 people. For the opening, the draft beer selection is complete: Red Coffee with Cocoa, Juicy IPA, Belgian IPA, American IPA, Tripel, Guava Sour, Pilsner, as well as white wine draft beer with strawberry and wine draft beer.

In the kitchen, the aim is to translate the bohemian and popular spirit of downtown Rio into food. A highlight is the "Carne da Rua do Piolho" — meat slowly reduced in Stout beer, served on classic French bread. The menu also includes rib fritters, feijoada (Brazilian black bean stew), pastéis (Brazilian pastries), and other options designed to pair with the house's draft beers and cocktails.

The restaurant will be open Monday to Friday from 15 pm, and on Saturdays from 11 am to 20 pm, offering a special lunch dish, reinforcing Rua da Cerveja's mission to bring life, flavor, and gatherings back to the heart of the city's historic center.

About Beer Street

The Beer Street project aims to transform Rua da Carioca into a craft beer hub, stimulating local commerce and the occupation of underutilized properties. The Rio de Janeiro City Hall offered financial incentives for property renovations (R$ 1.000/m²), up to R$ 15, and operational expenses (R$ 75/m² monthly for up to 30 months), up to R$ 200, with a limit for properties up to 200 m². The initiative includes nine craft breweries, six of which are already in operation. In addition, the Municipality is renovating the street: upgrading the space, widening the sidewalks, and creating a gathering place for those visiting Beer Street. The expectation is that, by creating the city's first craft beer hub, a new tourist attraction will emerge, drawing people from Rio and beyond.

A study by SMDE indicates that the program could create around 500 jobs and generate R$ 222 million in revenue over four years. The project also contributes to the preservation of the region's historical heritage, whose properties are listed by cultural protection agencies.
