Rua da Carioca gains new breweries and reinforces the revitalization of the address as a beer hub

Rua da Carioca, one of the most traditional addresses in downtown Rio de Janeiro, is on its way to consolidating itself as Rua da Cerveja (Beer Street) – an initiative planned in the Reviver Centro project, made possible by the City of Rio through the Municipal Secretariat for Economic Development (SMDE), in partnership with Companhia Carioca de Parcerias e Investimentos (CCPar). After the inauguration of the first brewery in September 2024, the address welcomed two new establishments on Thursday night (27/3), expanding the options in the location.

The new meeting point occupies a three-story building, located at numbers 74 and 76 on Rua da Carioca. The space functions as a true “beer mall”, bringing together different styles and experiences for the public.

– The role of the government is to encourage and stimulate. That’s what we’re doing with Rua da Carioca, helping to restore an iconic street that had half of its stores closed. Little by little, the street is coming back to life – assessed the municipal secretary of Economic Development, Osmar Lima.

To boost the project, Rio's City Hall provided financial subsidies to entrepreneurs: R$1.000 per m² for renovations and R$75 per m² per month for expenses, with a ceiling for properties up to 200 m². The monthly payments will last for 30 to 48 months. With this strategy, the expectation is that Rua da Cerveja will generate R$222 million in four years, generate a total payroll of R$41,8 million and create around 500 new jobs. The idea is to attract more and more people to visit and live in the central region of Rio, boosting the revitalization and preservation of the Center and its historic buildings.
