Municipality opens registrations for Municipal Conference of Cities

Registration is now open for the Municipal Conference of Cities – Rio 2024, which will be held on June 29 and 30 (Saturday and Sunday), from 9 am to 18 pm, at Porto Maravalley, in the Porto Maravilha region. The meeting is one of the preparatory stages for the 6th National Conference of Cities. Representatives of entities, the municipal government and observers will present their proposals to help build the National Urban Development Policy (UNDP), aiming at balanced, sustainable and fair urban growth. The objective of the municipal stage is to mobilize society to participate, to contribute to public policies and also to elect representatives of the Municipality of Rio for the state stage.

– This is a fundamental step for us to discuss and seek to establish agendas, goals and plans to address the problems that exist in the city of Rio de Janeiro. We can also take important proposals from the city and the people of Rio to be debated at the state and national levels – explained the municipal secretary of Urban and Economic Development, Chicão Bulhões.

Participation of civil and class entities

The event is aimed at members of civil society linked to some civil and professional association or institution, who can vote and run as delegates, that is, they can be elected to the state stage. In addition, professionals who work in municipal public management and observers – citizens residing in the city of Rio de Janeiro who are interested in the topic – also participate.

The two days of debate and election of delegates will feature discussions on eight major themes: Social control and democratic management; Housing and land regularization; Urban mobility, basic sanitation; Environmental sustainability and climate emergencies; Public security and armed confrontation in the territories; Digital transformation and territories; and Interfederative management and management of metropolitan regions.

– We want to mobilize more professional and civil entities to participate, as their contribution is fundamental in the construction of a policy that is more in line with society’s desires – highlighted the municipal undersecretary of Urban Planning of the Secretariat of Urban and Economic Development, Wanderson Correa.

A preliminary survey shows that around 150 observers, 20 public sector professionals and 15 members of civil and professional associations have already signed up. Anyone interested can register free registration until June 17th, at 23:59 pm. Porto Maravalley is easily accessible: it is close to the Gentileza Terminal and the Pereira Reis Station (VLT).
