GET Audiovisual expands the model of Technological Educational Gymnasiums - Press Release The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Municipal Department of Education (SME), in partnership with the Roberto Marinho Foundation, presented, this Friday (March 13), the Audiovisual Technological Educational Gymnasium (GET Audiovisual) at the Camilo Castelo Branco Municipal School, in Jardim Botânico. The unit underwent renovations and has more than 1.100 m² dedicated to creation and experimentation in the audiovisual universe, bringing together more than ten maker spaces integrated into the full-time school curriculum.
– Today is a very special day for education in Rio de Janeiro. GET Audiovisual represents a milestone for our city, which concentrates a large part of Brazil's audiovisual industry. Here we will train students who will be the future professionals who will be in front of and behind the cameras. GET is the CIEP of the 21st century, a full-time school with the most innovative teaching model in the country. It covers everything from pins to rockets, as students learn to use everything from a sewing machine to a 3D printer. And now with GET Audiovisual we are taking a new step in educational innovation – celebrated the Municipal Secretary of Education, Renan Ferreirinha.
Among the new spaces are recording studios, a control room, a creative space, a production workshop, an audiovisual room for digital creation and editing, an auditorium with dressing rooms, and a maker collaboration area.
– The GET Audiovisual program is the result of many conversations between the teams from the Municipal Education Department and the Roberto Marinho Foundation. Our main concern is to build a model that is valuable for the student while they are studying, but also in their future. It is an innovative educational proposal that will work with digital media and audiovisual resources to promote learning and knowledge building. It is a great joy for the Roberto Marinho Foundation to be part of a project like this, because we understand the impact it can have on the lives of hundreds of students and their families – highlighted the Secretary-General of the Roberto Marinho Foundation, João Alegria.
The GET Audiovisual program expands upon the model of the Technological Educational Gymnasiums, recognized by the Ministry of Education as one of the best and most inspiring experiences in management and pedagogical projects in comprehensive education in the country. This initiative consolidates Rio as the Innovation Capital and strengthens digital and media literacy in the municipal school system.
The GETs' pedagogical approach integrates the STEAM methodology (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) with the world of audiovisual media. Students learn by creating, filming, programming, prototyping, and narrating their own ideas and stories. The result is the development of logical reasoning, creativity, autonomy, and leadership through hands-on experiences.
The new GET (Environmental Education and Research Center) is also establishing itself as a vibrant space for environmental education and scientific research, encouraging the production of narratives about sustainability, territory, and nature. The initiative contributes to reducing school absenteeism and increases student engagement by offering a concrete vision of the future, with technical knowledge relevant to future entry into the job market.
Students will be able to develop audiovisual productions and original projects, participating in festivals and awards, such as the LED Festival, promoted by TV Globo and the Roberto Marinho Foundation, in conjunction with film, theater, and television. The training directly addresses an expanding market: the audiovisual sector is experiencing growth in Brazil, driven by streaming platforms and high demand for content. The state of Rio de Janeiro concentrates 46% of the companies in the sector that participated in a national survey conducted by Firjan, reinforcing its relevance and the need for training new professionals.
