Escola.Rio Program, on TV Band and TV Escola, expands activities for Elementary School and Early Childhood Education
Published on 09/10/2020 - 17:23 | UpdatedThe City of Rio, through a partnership between the Municipal Department of Education and MultiRio, will expand the Escola.Rio programming, which brings learning to students on open TV. Starting this Monday (12/10), there will be a total of four additional hours of educational content per day on TV Bandeirantes and TV Escola. The goal is to provide greater pedagogical support for elementary school students, who are out of the classroom due to the pandemic, and to include activities for those in Early Childhood Education. The first day of the new schedule will be dedicated to Children's Day (which is also a holiday in honor of Our Lady of Aparecida) with more playful content.
Students in the final years of Elementary School will have their workload doubled in the mornings on TV Bandeirantes (channel 7.2), starting on Tuesday (13/10). Video classes for the 7th, 8th and 9th grades will be given from 8 am to 10 am and will include content such as “Reading Room” and Curricular Extension Projects, produced by the Reading Management and the Coordination of Curricular Extension Projects (CPEC), respectively. The programming will be repeated in the afternoon, from 14 pm to 16 pm. These are teachings that seek to complement traditional subjects and encourage students to seek knowledge. One example is the class on folklorist and historian Câmara Cascudo, scheduled for Wednesday (14/10), at 9 am.
While Monday's programming is dedicated to Children's Day, with programs from the MultiRio archive, on Thursday (15/10), Teachers' Day, the tribute is for all teachers. On TV Bandeirantes (channel 7.1), a special #EducaEmCasa will talk about the importance of educators.
Early Years of Elementary School and Early Childhood Education
The schedule for students in grades 1 to 6 is also being expanded, mainly with the addition of supplementary content. Starting this week, TV Escola (channel 2.3) will be offering almost two hours of video lessons for students in this age group, from 10 am to 12 pm, and will be repeated between 16 pm and 18 pm. During 15 minutes of this time slot (between 11:15 am and 11:30 am and between 17:15 pm and 17:30 pm), the program will be aimed at students in Early Childhood Education, with material shown for those who have not yet learned to read and write.
A class on the theme “Musical Composition” has been prepared for the audience in the early years, and will air on Tuesdays at 11 am and 17 pm. On Wednesday, at the same time, there will be a discussion on “Choreographic Composition”. Both are part of the Curricular Extension Project, which will be taught in parallel with the content of Mathematics, Portuguese Language, History, Geography and Sciences. On Friday (16/10), as in previous weeks of Escola.Rio, there will be classes in Arts, Music and Physical Education for all school years.
The detailed schedule for Escola.Rio can be seen below and also on the MultiRio portal (www.multirio.rj.gov.br). It also features a mural with testimonials from students and teachers about the program, with content produced by them. It is an important form of virtual interaction at this time of social distancing due to the pandemic.

How to tune into Escola.Rio on free-to-air TV
In addition to being broadcast on subscription channels, Escola.Rio is available on free-to-air TV to maximize access to the program's curricular and socio-emotional content. You can tune in via Band Rio channels (7.1 and 7.2) or TV Escola (2.3).
To tune in to a channel, you need to update your TV's programming (in the case of newer models) or the external digital converter, which allows you to use old tube TVs. The student or guardian should access the menu and choose the option “automatically search for channels” or another similar option that scans channels. From there, simply tune in to the number indicated at the time of the program.
If the family does not yet have an antenna, it is best to install an external UHF antenna with the help of a technician in order to obtain the best signal. However, there are several models of internal antennas available on the market – their operation depends on the location of the property. It is worth noting that since November 22, 2017, the analog TV signal has been turned off in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Therefore, anyone who has a set at home, without access to pay TV, has since needed this adaptation to have access to the digital signal.
