The partnership between Rio City Hall and Rio Patinação began last Monday - Disclosure

Arena Carioca 2, in the Barra da Tijuca Olympic Park, has a new sport on its schedule: artistic skating. The partnership between the City Hall and Rio Patinação began last Monday (19/2) and the 24 spots offered are already sold out. The sport is aimed at all ages and takes place on Wednesdays and Fridays, from 8 am to 9 am and from 9 am to 10 am, at the Rio City Hall sports facility.

– We are very happy with the partnership with Rio Patinação. In 24 hours, all the spots offered were sold out. Demand was very high and we are analyzing the best way to increase the number of classes. The sports activities are currently being offered at Arena Carioca 2 and the space is wonderful. We have almost 30 sports at the location and more than 3 thousand students practicing sports – said the Secretary of Sports, Guilherme Schleder.

Partner and executive director of Rio Patinação, Nathalia Bordallo celebrated the demand from students for skating lessons.

– We are very happy to be able to provide this sport to children, young people and adults who seek quality of life. The partnership with the City Hall and the Barra da Tijuca Olympic Park is the beginning of a dream of bringing this sport to more and more people and providing an appropriate training location for our high-performance team.

The deputy mayor of Barra, Recreio and Vargens, Raphael Lima, highlighted the importance of activities in the region.

– The wide variety of free activities offered at Arena 2 and the new space that will be opened in Parque Rita Lee is a source of pride for all of us. It is a large sports center that serves at least six neighborhoods in the surrounding area.

For Alessandra Castro, partner and technical director of Rio Patinação, it is a joy to see new rollerblading fans.

– I have been involved in figure skating for 30 years. I was part of the Brazilian national team and today, as a partner and technical director of Rio Patinação, I have the pleasure of sharing my experiences and knowledge with more than 200 students and athletes. Being in a place like the Olympic Park with our sport is a special achievement. I have no doubt that this will be a partnership that will bear good fruit for the sport.

Maria Gabriela Villanueva, known as Gabuxa, is the coordinator of Rio Patinação and hopes that more students can sign up for the project.

– Figure skating is my life. Seeing everyone’s smiles when they manage to perform a move is a daily gift. I hope to be able to open more schedules and welcome more and more people who are passionate about roller skating.
