Sports and leisure activities on the coast will be regulated - Marcos de Paula/City Hall of Rio

Regulate and improve the use of public spaces for sports and leisure activities. With these objectives, the City of Rio created a committee that includes several municipal bodies. The idea is to organize urban spaces for sports purposes, such as classes and schools held in parks, beaches and stadiums. In addition, the use of these spaces will be monitored.

The process for obtaining permits that allow the use of public spaces in the municipality for sports activities is now open, and interested parties must register on the Carioca Digital portal (carioca.rio). All applications will be evaluated by the recently formed Committee for Qualification of Public Spaces for Sports and Leisure Activities.

The group has two representatives from the Municipal Secretariat for Public Order, the Licensing and Inspection Coordination (CLF), the Municipal Secretariat for the Environment of the City, the Sub-Secretariat for Event Promotion, the Municipal Secretariat for Government and Public Integrity and the Municipal Secretariat for Sports.

– The lack of clear data alarmed us in the mapping process. Together with the Qualification Committee, we will define criteria and grant the permits fairly and maintain order in the city – says Guilherme Schleder, municipal secretary of sports.
