The Maré Olympic Village is now called Seu Amaro Municipal Olympic Village. The change is a tribute to Amaro Domingues, better known as Seu Amaro, who was the founder and executive director of the Vila Olímpica da Maré Sports Union and passed away in July 2021. The change was published in the Official Gazette on February 17.

– This is a thank you for everything Mr. Amaro did for Maré, especially for the Olympic Village. It is a great pleasure to participate in this beautiful ceremony. The tribute is very fair, I am sure Mr. Amaro would be very happy with so much affection – said the municipal secretary of Sports, Guilherme Schleder.

Born in Campos dos Goytacazes in the 1930s, Amaro Domingues arrived in Maré in 1962. He was a great community leader and contributed to the strengthening of sports and citizenship in the area. In addition, he was president of the community's Residents' Association and one of the protagonists in the process of creating the Union of Residents' Associations of Maré, an institution that was directly responsible for the development of the Maré Olympic Village project.

Seu Amaro made history and even became a book. Published in 2016, “Amaro da Maré” was written by Regina Zappa.

– He left a great legacy for all of us, and the name change is a recognition of that. I am proud of everything my father did and I am certain that he will never be forgotten – says, emotionally, Sônia Maria, Seu Amaro’s daughter.

The facility is currently undergoing student re-registration, places are limited and 40 tickets are distributed per shift. New registrations can be made at the Vila secretariat from March 8, from Tuesday to Friday, from 9 am to 11 am, 13 pm to 16 pm and Saturdays from 8 am to 11 am.

The documents required for those over 18 are copies of their ID, CPF, proof of residence and medical certificate. Those under 18 must present copies of their ID card or birth certificate, the ID of the guardian, proof of residence and school statement.

Everyone over the age of 12 must present proof of vaccination against Covid-19.

The Seu Amaro Municipal Olympic Village is located on Tancredo Neves Street, s/n°, Maré.
