  • Olympic Village in Penha will have gymnastics classes from the Diego Hypólito Institute
The Institute will offer gymnastics classes for children aged 4 to 12 - Rio City Hall

Artistic gymnastics at Vila Olímpica Greip, in Penha, received a boost this Thursday (2/6) with the inauguration of the Diego Hypólito Institute. The project by the Olympic, world and Pan-American medalist will offer gymnastics classes for children aged 4 to 12.

The gymnasium where the Institute will be located has been renovated and has received new equipment. The 150 children enrolled were eager to see the transformation of the place. One of them is athlete Letícia Barreto, who started doing artistic gymnastics at Greip three years ago, with coach Ceará. She is a fan of Diego and was very excited when she found out about the news.

– This project will be very important for my career, it will help my performance. I hope to be able to fulfill my dream of making it to the Brazilian national team and who knows, win an Olympics – said Letícia.

The Institute has the support of the municipal Sports Department and BV bank.

– It is an honor to support projects like this in our Olympic Villages. Partnerships like this are essential for the development of great athletes. Who knows, maybe new gymnasts like Diego will emerge from here – emphasized the municipal secretary of Sports, Francisco Bandeira.

Excited, Diego Hypólito spoke of the joy of giving many children the opportunity to fulfill their dream of becoming gymnasts.

– I am very proud to see this project becoming a reality. I needed to give back to society what they gave me when they believed that I could be a national representative in major competitions. This is the beginning of a dream come true – said Diego.

The first Brazilian to win a medal at the gymnastics world championships and the athlete's sister, Daniele Hypólito made a surprise appearance at the event and was the first to inaugurate the apparatus, with a performance on the balance beam.

– It is very exciting to see such a beautiful Institute. I am sure that many champions will emerge from here – said Daniele.

Activities will begin next Tuesday (7/6). Classes will be taught by teachers, coordinators and interns under the supervision of Diego himself. All places are already full.

In addition to artistic gymnastics, Vila Oímpica Greip offers other activities available free of charge: stretching, ballet, PCD bocce, capoeira, functional circuit, gypsy dance, ballroom dancing, belly dancing, futsal, PCD futsal, localized gymnastics, water aerobics, hydrotherapy, baby swimming, children's swimming, adult swimming, PCD swimming, pilates, rhythms and volleyball.
