The Elite Division of GM-Rio – Municipal Force presents a summary of its first month of operation and announces expansion into the Tijuca area.

The Elite Division of GM-Rio – Municipal Force presented, this Tuesday (April 14th), the balance of the first month of preventive and ostensive policing focused on robberies and thefts in locations and times with high rates of these crimes. The results were released by the Special Secretary of Urban Security, Brenno Carnevale, during the CompStat Rio meeting, highlighting the main indicators achieved since the beginning of the policing, on March 15th. Throughout this first month, the policing actions resulted in 807 approaches, 215 arrests, and 116 police reports.

— The Municipal Force completes one month of operation on the city streets with more than 800 approaches focused on suspicious behaviors, always related to the prevention and suppression of thefts and robberies. The Municipal Force agents go to the streets with directed missions, with individual body cameras equipped with GPS devices, monitored by our team in the Operational Monitoring Room, at the Operations and Resilience Center (COR). It is very important to highlight this prevention and proactive action, with agents attentive to what is happening on the ground, thus ensuring greater security for the population — highlighted Secretary Brenno Carnevale.

The consolidated data corresponds to the four perimeters incorporated into the planning so far: Rio Bus Station x Gentileza Terminal x Leopoldina Station; Jardim de Alah; Avenida Presidente Vargas x Campo de Santana x Central do Brasil x Cinelândia, in addition to the Calçadão x Campo Grande train station, which began last Sunday (April 12). The implementation of the GM-Rio Elite Division – Municipal Force is being carried out in phases, according to technical criteria. Twenty-two areas with a high incidence of robberies and thefts were mapped, in all regions of the city.

New area of ​​operation: Tijuca – São Francisco Xavier X Afonso Pena

During the presentation of the report, the secretary also announced the expansion of policing to Tijuca, in the area between Rua São Francisco Xavier and Praça Afonso Pena, with the start date scheduled for April 26th. The new area will follow the same operational model adopted in other regions, based on data analysis and the strategic positioning of personnel, using crime indicators and mapping. The expectation is that the other 17 operational perimeters will be incorporated progressively, according to the technical definition presented at the CompStat Rio meetings.

— Tijuca is undoubtedly an area that deserves this attention. We also have the North Operational Base. So, we are also inaugurating the operation of the Elite Division of the GM-Rio – Municipal Force in this territorial axis of the North Zone, in this area that suffers from the crime of theft and robbery, as well as Campo Grande, Cinelândia and Central do Brasil, which are the regions where the Municipal Force has been operating since March 15th — concluded the secretary.
