The mayor of Rio, Eduardo Cavaliere, announced this Tuesday (August 11th), during a meeting of CompStat Rio, the expansion of preventive and visible policing by the Elite Division of the GM-Rio – Municipal Force to a new area of ​​operation: Freguesia and Jacarepaguá, in the Southwest Zone. Policing in the new area, defined based on the analysis of crime patterns and statistical indicators, will begin on Sunday (August 16th).

"Today we are taking another step towards the Southwest Zone, a region greatly affected by the worsening public safety situation, and the Municipal Force is advancing into Freguesia, in a specific area of ​​the neighborhood that has a higher incidence of robberies and thefts, close to businesses and where there is a large volume of people circulating. We have been doing this work in partnership with the Civil Police and the Military Police, and we are very pleased with the results achieved so far, but I want to tell the people of Rio that we are only just beginning," said the mayor.

The expansion is part of the Municipal Force's strategic plan, which foresees the gradual implementation of new operational perimeters in priority areas of the city. With this step, the force will operate in 13 strategic points of the municipality, concentrating its personnel in locations and times identified based on technical criteria, such as those with a high incidence of robberies and thefts.

During the meeting, the mayor and the Secretary of Urban Security, Brenno Carnevale, also presented the operational report of the Municipal Force, which reached the mark of 1.000 arrests and detentions since the beginning of operations on March 15. In the same period, 223 cell phones, 209 motorcycles and 15 necklaces were seized and recovered, in addition to a pistol, 16 replica firearms and 60 bladed weapons.

— The Municipal Force conducts preventive and visible policing, always acting proactively, with agents who go to the streets knowing exactly where and when they need to patrol, as well as the appropriate equipment for that type of patrol, whether by car, on foot, or by motorcycle. All of this with action always focused on crime hotspots. With this preventive approach methodology, we have reached, in five months of operation, this milestone of one thousand arrests and detentions at police stations — stated the Secretary of Urban Security.

On Saturday (August 15th), the induction ceremony will be held for the 323 new students who will join the third class of the Training Course of the Elite Division of GM-Rio – Municipal Force. The ceremony will take place at the Division's Academy, in Irajá.
