Rio de Janeiro City Hall introduces Municipal Force to merchants, local leaders, and residents of Méier and Cachambi.

Police patrols will be conducted within the perimeter encompassing the Méier Station - Cachambi - Beth Santos/Rio City Hall area. The Rio de Janeiro City Hall presented this Saturday (June 6th) to merchants, building managers and community leaders from Méier and Cachambi the objectives and operational model of the Municipal Guard's Elite Division – Municipal Force, which begins policing the perimeter of the Méier-Cachambi Station this Sunday (June 7th). The meeting, which included the participation of Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere and the Secretary of Urban Security, Brenno Carnevale, was held at the Miguel Falabella Theater, in Norte Shopping.
"There are 600 well-trained, well-equipped, and well-prepared agents to fulfill this mission of occupying these areas of the city that account for half of the robberies and thefts. Now, starting this Sunday, we are moving into Méier and Cachambi with Municipal Force agents trained to occupy these spaces and reduce robberies and thefts," declared Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere.
During the meeting, the technical criteria used to define the areas of operation of the Elite Division were presented, based on the analysis of crime hotspots and statistical data, allowing the allocation of personnel to locations and times with a high incidence of robberies and thefts, in addition to the monitoring tools and technologies employed in the agents' routine.
– Today, we spoke with merchants, building managers, and residents of Méier and Cachambi to introduce the Municipal Force and show how the work will be carried out in the region. The agents will act preventively and proactively, as already happens in other parts of the city, always paying attention to the territory. We are talking about a policing model based on data, management, and proximity to those who live, work, and circulate in the region – stated the Secretary of Urban Security, Brenno Carnevale.
The perimeter of the Méier-Cachambi Station is the second in the North Zone to receive patrols from the teams, which have been operating since April 26 in the region between Rua São Francisco Xavier and Praça Afonso Pena, in Tijuca.
The Municipal Force teams are already operating in other areas of the city as well: Rio Bus Station X Gentileza Terminal X Leopoldina Station; Jardim de Alah; Avenida Presidente Vargas X Campo de Santana X Central do Brasil X Cinelândia; Campo Grande (train station X pedestrian walkway); Tijuca (São Francisco Xavier X Afonso Pena); and Botafogo, in the perimeters of Rua Lauro Müller X Rua General Severiano X Avenida Venceslau Brás; the area around the Botafogo Metro (including Rua São Clemente, Rua Voluntários da Pátria and cross streets); and the axis of Praia de Botafogo X Rua Marquês de Abrantes, with some streets in the Flamengo neighborhood, in addition to the perimeter in Bangu (pedestrian walkway x Bangu Shopping).
The Director-General of the Municipal Force, Aimée de Lá Torre, highlighted that the corporation's objective is to increase the population's sense of security:
– Our officers are on the streets so that Rio residents don't have to ask a relative if they arrived home or at work safely. So that they do it out of affection, not worry. That's the difference the Municipal Force wants to bring.
Operational balance
Since the start of operations on March 15, the Elite Division of the Municipal Guard - Municipal Force has made 666 arrests for crimes such as robbery, theft, and receiving stolen goods. During the same period, 117 cell phones and 104 motorcycles were recovered and seized.
