  • Rio de Janeiro City Hall donates 150 pistols to the Municipal Force of Duque de Caxias.
The event marked the integration between the forces of Rio and Duque de Caxias - Beth Santos/Rio City Hall

The mayor of Rio, Eduardo Cavaliere, signed, this Thursday (July 16th), the donation agreement for 150 Taurus pistols to the City Hall of Duque de Caxias. The equipment belonged to the Municipal Guard of Rio de Janeiro.

The weaponry had been donated to the city of Rio by the Federal Highway Police, but it has a different standardization than that used by the Elite Division of the Municipal Force. The agents in the city of Rio use the Austrian Glock model. The municipality of Duque de Caxias benefited from having signed a technical cooperation agreement with the capital of Rio de Janeiro for the development of its elite division of the Municipal Guard.

The ceremony, held at the Training Academy of the Elite Division of the Municipal Guard – Municipal Force, in Irajá, was attended by the mayor of Duque de Caxias, Netinho Reis, the Secretary of Urban Security of Rio de Janeiro, Brenno Carnevale, the president of the Municipal Chamber of Duque de Caxias, Cláudio Thomaz, and the director-general of the Municipal Force, Aimée de La Torre.

— These Taurus pistols that we are transferring to the Caxias Municipal Force were donated by the Federal Highway Police. They are ready to be used by the officers. The city of Duque de Caxias, like the city of Rio, has been training and preparing officers to go out on the streets. This is another step in the partnership between Rio and Caxias, an integration that we have been carrying out permanently — said the mayor of Rio, Eduardo Cavaliere.

The event also marked the exchange of knowledge, experiences, methodologies, and best practices related to the activities of municipal guards, aiming at the technical, operational, and administrative improvement of both corporations.

"I am very happy to see the people of Rio and Duque de Caxias united. This is a great example for Brazil that, to face the problem of public safety, it is necessary for municipalities, states and the Federal Government to unite, all with the objective of guaranteeing the right of the population to come and go," reinforced the mayor of Duque de Caxias, Netinho Reis.

The first initiative of this partnership is the implementation of the Course on the Differentiated Use of Force, taught by instructors from the Elite Division of the Municipal Guard – Municipal Force, as part of the Complementary Training for Operational Action of Armed Municipal Guards of the Municipality of Duque de Caxias. The activity began on July 13th and ends on the 17th, at the Municipal Force Training Academy, in Irajá.

The course aims to improve the technical and operational skills of participants, addressing the legal, doctrinal, and technical principles related to the differentiated use of force, with an emphasis on professional, proportional, ethical, and safe conduct, in accordance with current legislation and operational protocols.

In total, 528 agents from the Armed Municipal Guard of Duque de Caxias will be trained in this supplementary course and will begin working on the city's streets starting August 1st.

In the future, agents from the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Force will undergo training at the Duque de Caxias Armed Municipal Guard academy. The activities will aim to promote the exchange of experiences between the corporations and the improvement of operational techniques.
