Piscinão de Ramos gains graffiti murals

The Piscinão de Ramos has become part of the largest urban art corridor in Latin America, which is making Avenida Brasil more colorful. The Piscinão Water Treatment Plant has two graffiti murals that portray the joy of the locals and life in the suburbs of Rio.

– Graffiti has a suburban feel. Using this art to bring color and joy to a leisure spot in the North Zone is a way to restore suburban pride – said the deputy mayor of the North Zone, Diego Vaz.

The murals were painted by Bahian artist Leandro da Conceição Santana, who lives in Ramos and was inspired by the Piscinão and Guanabara Bay to create the artistic panels. The initiative is from the Rio-Águas Foundation, which operates the station and takes care of the quality of the 30 million liters of water that supply the salt lake. The treatment is carried out in partnership with the concessionaire Águas do Rio.

– Piscinão de Ramos is one of the most visited places in the North Zone. It attracts people from all over the world to visit it. We are promoting the painting of these murals to bring more art to visitors and to make the station more in harmony with this place so appreciated by locals and tourists – highlighted the president of the Rio-Águas Foundation, Wanderson Santos.

Artist worked with Kobra

Muralist Leandro da Conceição Santana, 39, is from Salvador, Bahia, and has lived in Rio for 20 years. He worked for two years with renowned artist Eduardo Kobra. Santana makes his living from art and has painted graffiti and artistic drawing murals in Salvador, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, downtown Rio and Campo Grande. He has also worked on the production and creation teams of Rio de Janeiro samba schools.
