City Hall completes drainage work in Padre Miguel

The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Rio-Águas Foundation, delivered, this Thursday (30/5), the drainage work on Rua Helianto and near Praça do Skate, in Padre Miguel, in the West Zone. To reduce flooding, a new drainage network was installed on the street, with an extension of 152 meters, and part of the channel of the Rio Catarino was restored.

Near the Skate Park in Padre Miguel, part of the Rio Catarino channel received concrete repairs. 126 meters of the river's retaining wall were rebuilt. In addition, the work included the installation of 1.569 square meters of paving, 1.145 square meters of sidewalk and a large drain.

– This project is very important for the region. We have restored a stretch of the Catarino River, which was listed near the square and was hindering the flow of water. We have corrected and improved the drainage system on Helianto Street and the way water is channeled to the river. We have also built a huge drain on the street to improve rainwater collection – explained the president of the Rio-Águas Foundation, Wanderson Santos.

The deputy mayor of Grande Bangu, Robson do Chocolate, spoke about the importance of the work for the region.

– With this project, the Rio City Hall is putting an end to a problem that has been going on for many years, with residents suffering from flooding every time it rains heavily. Thanks to Rio-Águas’ interventions, this will no longer happen. I am very happy about this because I live in the region and have seen the suffering of the residents here.
