A roadside hawk was rescued on the morning of Friday (28/10) in front of the headquarters of the Rio Municipal Guard (GM-Rio), in the São Cristóvão neighborhood, in the North Zone. The bird was found lying on the ground by employees of a public construction project being carried out on the road. They called municipal guards and delivered the animal to the building. As soon as they received the animal, the reception team called the Environmental Defense Group (GDA), which carried out the rescue.
According to the agents, the animal may have been stunned after hitting an object or hearing a loud noise, which caused it to fall. After an initial assessment, it was found that the hawk was in good condition and it was released into the Tijuca Forest, which is an area of the city with the highest concentration of forest and fauna.
When spotting wild animals in vulnerable or dangerous situations, the population can call the Environmental Patrol, from the Municipal Department of Environment and Climate, through Central 1746 for a safe rescue.
