The Rio de Janeiro Municipal Guard (GM-Rio) received the Citizen Ombudsman Award, granted by the Rio de Janeiro chapter of the Brazilian Association of Ombudsmen (ABO-RJ). The award was presented to the chief ombudsman of GM-Rio, inspector Zacarias Barbosa, during the 24th State Meeting of Ombudsmen of Rio de Janeiro, held on October 25 and XNUMX, in the auditorium of the Integrated Command and Control Center (CICC), in downtown Rio. The award was granted by unanimous decision of the Board of Directors and the Deliberative and Fiscal Councils of the association, for the trajectory in improving Participatory Citizenship in the State of Rio de Janeiro.

The Ombudsman's Office is the first step in serving citizens and civil servants, and GM-Rio's ombudsmen work in direct contact with all sectors and operational units, including the Internal Affairs Office, which receives complaints. Currently, the GM-Rio Ombudsman's Office is the second in the number of calls received by the City of Rio. This year, from January to September, there were 17.765 Ombudsman's Office reports. There were also 38 requests made under the Access to Information Act (LAI) and 76 in-person services. In 2022, the office gained a new space within the GM-Rio headquarters, renovated and more accessible, to optimize service to the public, especially in person.

In addition to this award, the institution also received certification from the Rio+ Program, which recognized 60 initiatives from Rio City Hall agencies that contribute to a smarter and more sustainable Rio. GM-Rio received certification in the silver category for monitoring disturbances of the peace. The award was presented to inspector Marco Aurélio Pereira, commander of the 1st Inspectorate (Centro).

The program, which focuses on a culture of sustainable management, was created by the Planning Office of the Municipal Finance and Planning Department and the Smart City Coordination Office of the Rio de Janeiro City Hall (CCI), which operates at the Rio Operations Center (COR). The program created the RIO+ SEAL to value and recognize initiatives that contribute to the quality of life of Rio residents. The certifications were presented in the auditorium of the Rio de Janeiro Partnership and Investment Company (CCPar).

– Receiving these awards shows that we are on the right path, contributing to ensuring integrity in the environment and in the exercise of work to offer the best service to the population of Rio – highlighted the commander of GM-Rio, general inspector José Ricardo Soares.
