Municipal Guard inaugurates base of the School Patrol Play Team in Anchieta

The Rio de Janeiro Municipal Guard (GM-Rio) inaugurated, this Thursday (July 10th), the space that will serve as a strategic base for the School Patrol Recreational Activities Team (GRE) at the Paraíba Municipal School, in Anchieta. The team also received a new marked vehicle and opened the Mini Traffic City, which will be used in awareness-raising actions.

This year, the School Patrol has already carried out more than 400 activities throughout the city. The municipal guards who make up the team visit schools and conduct playful activities using audiovisual resources to convey awareness messages. Among the topics covered are "Coexistence without Violence" and "Road Safety." Furthermore, the work has a preventative focus, identifying abuse or violence against children.

"It's very gratifying for us to integrate our municipality's child protection network with the School Patrol. This pioneering work among the Guards of Brazil has been carried out for over 25 years, with patrol teams and also with socio-educational activities, which are carried out by lecture and recreational activity teams. The Recreation Team is receiving its own base for the first time, and this will certainly further enhance the work carried out by our guards," highlighted GM Commander Ricardo Soares.

The School Patrol Group (GRE) was created on November 11, 1998, with 34 guards and six vehicles to protect schools in the municipal school system. At that time, the GRE began operating in 125 schools, with the socio-educational mission of delivering preventive lectures on sexuality, drugs, and the importance of family. Currently, the group supports all schools in the municipal school system, which is considered the largest in Latin America.

 

The Mini City of Traffic

The School Patrol also inaugurated the Mini Traffic City, which will be used in traffic education and road safety activities in schools. Children learn about traffic rules in a practical and fun way. The mini cities are designed to simulate an urban environment, with streets, traffic lights, crosswalks, and other traffic elements, allowing children to experience real-life situations and learn about road safety, whether on foot, by bike, scooter, or in small vehicles.

This type of work is important because children are also part of the city's traffic system, crossing streets with their guardians or alone; they travel on public or private transportation, which requires the use of safety devices such as child seats or seat belts; and they need to be prepared to act safely. Furthermore, familiarization with traffic rules and regulations helps spread a culture of order and respect to parents and guardians as well.
