Municipal Guard launches 1st Chaplaincy Course in partnership with OCB

The course aims to train municipal guards to offer emotional support to their colleagues in uniform - Disclosure The Rio de Janeiro Municipal Guard (GM-Rio), in partnership with the Order of Chaplains of Brazil (OCB), held the inaugural class of the 23st Chaplaincy Course for 8 officers this Saturday morning (August 1). The course, aimed at training municipal guards to provide emotional support to their uniformed colleagues, will run through November 52th through the OCB's distance learning platform.
The opening ceremony was attended by GM Human Resources Director Inspector Gilson Bento—representing GM-Rio's General Commander, Inspector Itaharassi Bomfim Junior—; Municipal Guard Marleide Albuquerque, a member of the GM Sem Preconceito project; Dr. Elizabeth Ferraz, International President of the OCB; and Katjia Bastos, National President of the Interreligious Chaplaincy. Janaina Napoleão, from the Executive Coordination of Religious Diversity of the Civil House, also attended the inaugural lecture.
During the ceremony, Inspector Gilson Bento welcomed participants and thanked the OCB and GM-Rio for their partnership.
"Today is a happy day for all of us. I'm sure we're on the right track to empower our guards to offer shelter and support to those who need it most. A word, a hug… it can make all the difference."
OCB's international president, Elizabeth Ferraz, highlighted the importance of humanized training within the corporation.
"The training of chaplain guards represents a step forward in providing comprehensive care to the institution's professionals. Chaplains have a unique, more human perspective, and that makes all the difference. May we train more officers to serve an even greater number of people in need of support."
Meanwhile, the national president of the Interfaith Chaplaincy, Katjia Bastos, reinforced the value of dialogue and respect among different faiths. In the same context, municipal guard Marleide emphasized the importance of training and shared her hope for a future with greater religious freedom and less prejudice.
