The vehicle will give agents more visibility and mobility - Léo Araújo/GM-Rio

This May, the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Guard (GM-Rio) teams operating on Paquetá Island now have a motorized vehicle. This is the first time since the GM base was established in the region in 1991 that there will be a fixed motorized vehicle on site. Previously, GM-Rio cars or motorcycles were only used for specific or special operations. The operation is being carried out in conjunction with reinforcements from agents who have undergone special tactical training and will work exclusively in the region.

The vehicle will provide greater visibility and mobility to agents, since the GM-Rio base is located far from the commercial center, where the ferry terminal is located, at Praça Pintor Pedro Bruno, and will also help provide a greater sense of security to residents and visitors. Another important point is the use of the vehicle in guidance and monitoring of the circulation of electric vehicles, such as electric bicycles and even Eco Taxis (electric tricycles and quadricycles), with a focus on preventing accidents, meeting a demand from the population. In addition, the vehicle will help fulfill a more social function, providing solidarity transportation for people with mobility difficulties, some type of disability and the elderly.

The deployment of the new vehicle will reinforce patrols in the region. Every day, four municipal guards will work on preventive urban planning actions with the support of the vehicle, totaling 16 agents on the island. In addition to the vehicle, the guards will continue to patrol the region with bicycles. Paquetá, which is also known as the land of Moreninha, only has a few service vehicles, such as an ambulance, garbage collection vehicle, fire department vehicle and police vehicle, in addition to the new GM-Rio vehicle.

The Municipal Guard operates 24 hours a day on Paquetá Island, using a community patrol model that is part of local life, providing support to residents and visitors in a wide range of situations, as well as ensuring security and urban planning.
