The Rio de Janeiro Municipal Guard (GM-Rio) recorded two violent incidents involving the use of blades between Friday (1/4) and Sunday (3/4) in the city. In both cases, which occurred in the city center and the South Zone, the victims suffered cuts and required medical attention.
On Sunday, at around 18:30 p.m., guards from the 1st Inspectorate (Centro) saw, as they were moving to fulfill a mission, a fight between two men on Avenida Afonso Cavalcante. When the guards approached, the men stopped the fight, but one of them, aged 40, had already been injured with a machete and was bleeding profusely.
The guards took him to the Souza Aguiar Hospital in the city center to receive medical attention. The accused, a 47-year-old man, was arrested and taken to the 6th Police Precinct (Center). At the police station, he stated that he was in the area to use drugs and was informed that the injured man and another accomplice wanted to kill him, so he attacked them. The incident was registered as the crimes of bodily harm and threats.
On Friday, a 29-year-old woman was attacked by a 22-year-old homeless man while she was walking with her father at Praia Vermelha, in Urca. The man attacked the victim for no apparent reason and stabbed her in the neck with a razor blade. During the attack, the victim's father managed to call for support from Army soldiers who were patrolling the area.
When approached by the Army team, the accused fled, but was later arrested by guards from the Special Traffic Group (GET) of the Center and South Zone and the 1st Inspectorate. They arrested the man and took him to the 10th DP (Botafogo), where the incident was registered as bodily harm. The victim was taken to a UPA in order to receive medical attention.
