Guards detain man selling e-cigarettes near Rock City.

Municipal guards from the Special Operations Group (GOE) arrested a man in the act of selling electronic cigarettes on Friday night (September 4th) on Avenida Abelardo Bueno, near the Olympic Park, in Barra da Tijuca, Southwest Zone. The officers were part of the Municipal Guard's special operation for Rock in Rio.

After being caught in the act, the suspect resisted the officers' approach, but was apprehended and taken to the 16th Police Station (Barra da Tijuca), where the incident was registered as smuggling (article 334 of the Penal Code). The sale of this type of product is prohibited in Brazil. The material was seized along with other items found in the suspect's possession.

In addition to the arrest, the Municipal Guard teams that worked on Friday night focusing on traffic management issued 440 fines for various types of infractions around the music festival and in adjacent areas.

The special operation by GM-Rio in support of Rock in Rio has been underway since September 1st, focusing on urban and road safety, and will continue until the 18th. More than 4.700 guards will be employed throughout the operation, with over 400 per day in and around the City of Rock. The teams are carrying out preventive patrols to combat crime and assist the public, as well as operating roadblocks, guiding pedestrians to cross safely, and promoting traffic flow.

The operation also covers the city's main entry points and tourist areas, employing more than 1.300 guards working at these locations until the 18th. These actions are taking place without disrupting routine operations in the city. During these operations, the Rio Municipal Guard also recorded the apprehension of a motorcyclist after he was caught driving a vehicle without license plates in Leblon, in the city's South Zone.
