Municipal guards from the Special Operations Group (GOE) arrested a corn vendor on Sunday afternoon (8/6) after carrying out a credit card scam on a couple from the Dominican Republic on Copacabana Beach, in the South Zone.

According to the police report, the street vendor charged the couple R$300 for the purchase of two cans of corn, but they refused to pay. After they complained, he lowered the price to R$60, but they were unable to pay because the machine was malfunctioning. Another street vendor lent them the card machine and that was when the scam was committed. The tourists verified through the app that the amount charged was US$191. The agents were called and took the street vendor to the Special Tourism Support Police Station (DEAT) in Leblon, where the case was registered.
