- Municipal guards arrest man with open arrest warrant after robbery in Méier
Rio de Janeiro Municipal Guard (GM-Rio) teams recorded two incidents this weekend involving suspects being taken to police stations in the Colégio and Méier neighborhoods in the North Zone after being caught red-handed for theft and due to a traffic accident. In the case of the suspect arrested for theft, it was found that there was an outstanding arrest warrant issued against him for association with drug trafficking.
The 29-year-old man was arrested after an employee of a pharmacy located on Rua Silva Rabelo, in Méier, requested support from municipal guards from the 15th Inspectorate (Méier) who work in the Set of Prevention Strategies (CEP) of the Municipal Secretariat of Public Order (Seop). He reported that he saw the moment when the man put products worth R$120,00 in a paper bag and left the establishment.
The man resisted the approach and tried to attack the employee, who called the guards. The officers detained the man, who was taken to the 26th DP (Todos os Santos), where the case was registered and the existence of an open arrest warrant was also confirmed.
In the early hours of Sunday (28/4), guards from the Dog Operations Group (GOC) took the driver and passenger of a motorcycle to the police station after the two resisted during an approach, following a traffic accident in Colégio. The pair collided with a patrol car from the group near the 41st Military Police Battalion. Given their resistance, they were taken to the 27th DP (Vila da Penha), where the case was registered. Traffic fines were also issued and the men were released after presenting helmets to continue their journey.
