Municipal guards rescue one-year-and-two-month-old girl who choked in Copacabana.

Municipal guards from the Canine Operations Group (GOC) provided first aid on Thursday afternoon (July 16) to a 1-year-old and 2-month-old girl who had choked on Avenida Princesa Isabel, in Copacabana, in the South Zone of Rio.

Residents of the city of São Paulo, the child's parents were on vacation in Rio de Janeiro when the incident occurred. The GOC team was patrolling the area when the girl's mother approached, desperate, with her daughter in her arms, asking for help. The child was unable to breathe due to choking.

The guards immediately performed the Heimlich maneuver, a first-aid procedure used to clear the upper airways in cases of choking on a foreign object. After the intervention, the girl resumed normal breathing.

Next, the child and mother were taken to the Copacabana Emergency Care Unit (UPA), where she received medical attention. After the evaluation at the health unit, the family went to Copa D'Or Hospital for further tests and was subsequently discharged.
