The commander of the Special Operations Group (GOE) of the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Guard, sub-inspector Alex Abrantes, and 20 other municipal guards were honored with motions of applause on Tuesday afternoon (11/6), at the Rio de Janeiro City Council. They were part of the team responsible for protecting the Pedro Ernesto Palace, headquarters of the Municipal Legislative Branch, during the 2013 protests.
During the ceremony, the president of the Chamber, councilor Carlo Caiado (PSD), personally delivered the tributes and thanked everyone for their dedication and commitment to the work in defending the population and also the institution.

These demonstrations took place all over Brazil, but in the case of Rio de Janeiro they had their epicenter in Cinelândia Square. Today, in the same space, the Cinelândia Cultural Quadrangle is located, where the Pedro Ernesto Palace has housed the Rio City Council for over 100 years.
