The Rio de Janeiro Municipal Guard (GM-Rio) has set up a special urban and traffic management operation with 109 municipal guards for the All Souls' Day holiday. The actions will begin this Friday (1/11) with preventive actions to clear public spaces around the city's cemeteries. The urban management actions will focus primarily on preventive patrols to assist visitors and promote a sense of security, in addition to coercing unauthorized street vendors. Traffic actions will focus on fluidity, coercing illegal parking and the use of parking attendants, in addition to ensuring road safety, such as safe pedestrian crossings.

The cemeteries covered by the operation are: Praça dos Anjos Cemetery (Realengo); São Francisco Xavier Cemetery (Caju); São João Batista Cemetery (Botafogo); Irajá Cemetery; Ingleses Cemetery (Gamboa); Ricardo de Albuquerque Cemetery; Catumbi Cemetery (Catumbi); Murundu Cemetery (Padre Miguel); Jacarepaguá Cemetery (Pechincha); Guaratiba Cemetery (Guaratiba); Campo Grande Cemetery (Campo Grande); Santa Cruz Cemetery, Jardim Sulacap Cemetery, Piabas Cemetery (Recreio dos Bandeirantes); Cacuia Cemetery (Governor Island) and Inhaúma Cemetery (Inhaúma).

GM-Rio dogs at the Penitência Cemetery

The Special Dog Operations Group (GOC) of the Rio Municipal Guard will participate in the All Souls' Day program at the Penitência Cemetery in Caju on Saturday (2/11), All Souls' Day, with the Canine Therapy project. This is the first time that dogs working on the project will interact with the public, who will be shown the importance of this therapy for emotional health related to grief.

Implemented at GM-Rio in 2005, Canine Therapy is an important resource to assist in medical treatment, especially for the elderly and children, providing improvements in quality of life. The Kennel guards will coordinate the action at a stand that will be set up in the cemetery next to the historic chapel. Two border collies – Zack, two years and six months old, and Gaia, one year and one month old – will participate in the action.

– Every year, the Municipal Guard carries out a special urban and traffic management operation to facilitate the mobility of people who go to the city’s cemeteries to pay their respects. Being able to participate with our dogs, offering comfort and helping to cope with grief, is very gratifying for us – highlighted the commander of GM-Rio, general inspector José Ricardo Soares.
