Environmental patrol rescues boa constrictor and wild dog in different parts of the city

Rio City Hall, through the Municipal Guard and the Municipal Secretariat for the Environment, carried out rescues of two wild animals (boa constrictor and wild dog) in different parts of the city this Thursday, the 1st.

On Thursday morning, municipal guards from the Environmental Defense Group found a boa constrictor on an internal road in the Chacrinha State Park, in Copacabana, in the South Zone of Rio, approaching visitors. The agents rescued the animal and confirmed that it was healthy, returning it to nature, high up in the park, in an area of ​​dense vegetation.

In the early afternoon, a citizen found a very weak wild dog near the Mendanha State Park, in the West Zone of Rio, and took it in a box to the Environmental Defense Group base located inside the park. The environmental patrol was then called by the guards, who rescued the animal, and it was necessary to take it to the Wildlife Recovery Center (CRAS) at Estácio de Sá University.

The environmental patrol is made up of inspectors from the Municipal Department of the Environment and municipal guards from the Environmental Defense Group. The City of Rio advises the public to call the patrol by dialing 1746 if they spot wild animals in urban areas in the city of Rio or in any risky situation outside their habitat for safe rescue. Handling them is not advisable, much less trying to scare them away, as this can aggravate any injuries the animals may have. The 1746 hotline is open 24 hours a day.
