Boa Guarda Project, from GM-Rio, promotes recreational activities during the holiday period in Deodoro

The Boa Guarda project team, from the Rio Municipal Guard (GM-Rio), is carrying out a series of recreational activities for children during the vacation period. The activities began on January 2 and will continue until the 27th, always from 9 am to 12 pm, at the Parque Radical de Deodoro, in the West Zone, where the project's routine activities are held. This is the second year that Boa Guarda has carried out this initiative.

In this second edition, 35 spots were made available for children and teenagers aged 6 to 14, residents of the communities surrounding the park and who are linked to the project. As many parents and guardians work during the school break, children often have free time. The goal is to provide fun and leisure experiences for children during this period, providing well-being and a safe environment for the little ones.

The activities are held on the park premises, taking advantage of all the local facilities, including various games, eco-walks, rappelling, theater, various games and swimming in the pool. All the work is led by one of the Boa Guarda instructor teams, which is made up entirely of municipal guards with various specializations in martial arts or physical education.

– This initiative helps develop relationships between municipal guards and citizens and is also another way for us to serve the city. We are contributing to the well-being of children and to strengthening the feeling of belonging to the community. In the future, we will have citizens who are even more aware of citizenship issues and willing to cooperate for the good of the community. Who knows, they might even be leading similar projects in the future – highlighted the project coordinator, sub-inspector Claudio Afonso.

The name of the project refers to one of the most important combat positions that focuses on defense. In the West Zone, classes are held daily at Parque Radical de Deodoro, near the entrance. Classes are offered in Muay Thai, Jiu-Jitsu, Capoeira, Judo and functional training. In the North Zone, the project is held at Parque Madureira, where kickboxing and capoeira are offered, near the GM-Rio base. Registrations must be made at the locations themselves.

In both units, classes are taught by municipal guards who are masters and teachers in the sports offered, many of them champions of the sport as well. The Boa Guarda project is an initiative that integrates the front of social actions of GM-Rio for proximity and interaction with the population, as already happens with Showdog and Canine Therapy and the Playful Activities and Lectures of the School Patrol.
