Inspections were carried out to curb illegal parking and improve traffic flow - Press release/South Zone Subprefecture

The South Zone Subprefecture, through the Rio em Ordem Project, carried out a traffic management operation in Ipanema and Copacabana this Monday (July 20th). The inspection was conducted on major thoroughfares such as Visconde de Pirajá, Barão da Torre, Barata Ribeiro streets and Nossa Senhora de Copacabana Avenue. The action resulted in 168 vehicles being ticketed for illegal parking or remaining in the traffic lane.

In busy neighborhoods like Copacabana and Ipanema, respecting traffic rules is essential to reduce congestion and ensure the safe passage of pedestrians and service vehicles, such as buses, ambulances, and police cars.

The sub-mayor of the South Zone, Pedro Angelito, emphasizes that the operation reinforces the idea that respecting traffic rules is a collective responsibility.

"The street cannot be transformed into a private parking lot or a waiting area. Those who park in prohibited locations or occupy a traffic lane to wait for a passenger delay buses, impede the passage of emergency vehicles, and put lives at risk. Our commitment is to an organized, safe city where the rules are respected by everyone," stated the deputy mayor.

The Subprefecture's inspection operations will continue permanently in different neighborhoods of the region, especially at critical traffic points, with integrated actions of guidance, regulation and enforcement when necessary, always with the aim of promoting safer, more organized and efficient traffic for everyone.

"Rio em Ordem" (Rio in Order) is a project of the Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the South Zone Subprefecture, in partnership with the Secretariat of Public Order (Seop) and the Municipal Guard, which allocates municipal guard personnel to exclusively address urban order issues on the coast and main roads of the South Zone.
