School Patrols and Maria da Penha participate in awareness-raising and combating action against sexual abuse and exploitation of children and adolescents 

Guards from the School Patrols (GRE) and Maria da Penha (RMP), from the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Guard (GM-Rio), participated, this Friday (16/5), in an intersectoral action to raise awareness and combat the sexual abuse and exploitation of children and adolescents in the Realengo Susana Naspolini Park, located in the West Zone of the city. The action was promoted by the Commission for Integration and Protection of Students (CIPE), of the Municipal Department of Education, in allusion to Orange May, which deals with this theme, and brought together students from GET Jacques Raimundo, GEO Nicarágua and Padre Leonel Franca school.

in addition to representatives from various bodies and entities that work directly in the child and adolescent protection network, such as Health and Social Assistance professionals, the Guardianship Council and Municipal Security.

The special groups invited by GM-Rio are also part of this network and actively work in emergency situations, directly preventing this type of crime, but also raising awareness through lectures, discussion groups, recreational activities, etc. The mascots Linda and Justo and the “touch traffic light” girl, who alludes to the prevention of sexual abuse, participated in the walk held inside the park. The team from Ronda Maria da Penha held an exhibition with informative banners and distributed leaflets about domestic violence.

The aim of the action was also to draw the public's attention to the importance of preventing, reporting and confronting these serious rights violations. It is also worth remembering that Sunday, May 18, is the National Day to Combat Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children and Adolescents.
