Chapéu Mangueira and Babilônia gain health units with capacity for 200 visits per day

Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes inaugurated the Chapéu Mangueira-Babilônia Family Clinic in Leme on Thursday (27/6), accompanied by the Health Secretary Daniel Soranz and the Housing Secretary Gustavo Freue. The new unit began operating with two teams from the Family Health Strategy (ESF) and with the capacity to provide around 200 consultations per day.

– Everyone knows this model that we started implementing in 2009, of basic care, with Family Clinics bringing dignity to 70% of the population of Rio. This is a community with a lot of political struggle, a lot of mobilization, of people who fight for things. It is an example – highlighted Mayor Eduardo Paes.

The delivery of the new Family Clinic is part of the first phase of the Morar Carioca Program, developed by the Municipal Housing Department, which invested R$1,4 million in the construction of the unit. The project includes an additional R$15 million in other interventions in the community, such as the urbanization of Aguinaldo Bezerra Square; the construction of four blocks of multi-family buildings with a total of 52 housing units; the renovation of the multi-sports court; the relocation of the indoor court changing rooms; and the requalification of the access to the community via Gustavo Sampaio Street.

Secretary Daniel Soranz thanked the mayor for the work, a long-standing desire of the residents. And he highlighted the benefits that the new unit will bring to the residents.

– It’s a long-standing request from the community. This clinic has been expected since 2010, and we are making a dream come true, both as the manager and for everyone who lives here – said Soranz.

The Chapéu Mangueira-Babilônia CF started with six thousand registered users, who were already covered by the ESF at the municipal health center that operated in a space provided by the residents' association. In addition to having dimensions that did not allow for the expansion of services, the old property was located in a region that made it impossible, for example, for an ambulance to arrive for the eventual transfer of patients.

– We are very happy to deliver this Family Clinic project to the residents of Babilônia and Chapéu Mangueira. This is just the first phase of the Morar Carioca Program here. We are now working to finish building the apartments, providing more comfort and security for those who live here – said the municipal Housing Secretary, Gustavo Freue.

The new family clinic building is 363,52 square meters and is located at the entrance to the two communities, on Ladeira Ary Barroso, near the Faetec court. It has two floors with three medical offices, a vaccination room, a dressing room, a room for community health agents, a pharmacy, an administrative area, among other spaces.

The ESF teams are made up of doctors, nurses, nursing technicians, as well as community and health surveillance agents. At the CF, patients receive clinical care, treatment for hypertension, diabetes and tuberculosis, prenatal care, laboratory tests, child health care, vaccinations, dentistry, dressing changes, minor surgical procedures and scheduling of home visits, among other services. It is also possible to obtain free medications from the Primary Care list.

The Chapéu Mangueira-Babilônia CF operates at Ladeira Ary Barroso, s/n, from Monday to Friday, from 7 am to 17 pm.

About the Morar Carioca program

The Morar Carioca Program foresees interventions in 22 communities, benefiting more than 20 thousand homes, which will impact the lives of more than 80 thousand residents of Areas of Special Social Interest (AEIs), regions of the city demarcated for housing settlements for the low-income population.

The total investment is R$500 million, of which R$450 million will be for integrated urbanization projects and R$50 million for land regularization actions. The projects are based on five pillars: urban infrastructure, road connectivity, public lighting, garbage collection, and leisure and landscaping.

In addition to Chapéu Mangueira, Morar Carioca has already arrived in Costa Barros, in the Nova Cidade Park (Acari), in Vila Cruzeiro and Cariri, in the North Zone; Condominium of Garças and Caminho Feliz, in Bangu; Santa Maura, on Ladeira da Encontro, in Jacarepaguá; Parque Nobre, in Camorim; Largo do Corrêa, Murundu, Parque Real and Pousada dos Cavalheiros, in the West Zone.
