The mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Cavaliere, and the municipal secretary of Housing, Claudio Dutra, presented, this Sunday (06/09), to the residents of Complexo do Alemão, the project for the urbanization and infrastructure works in the region.

"To get to this point today, we've had a lot of work, a lot of planning, and a lot of management. What we're doing here today isn't a promise; it's the beginning of the works. We're going to change people's lives with urbanization, water, sewage, everything done with excellence and aligned with the leaders of the Complexo do Alemão," said Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere.

Investments of R$ 210 million are planned for the implementation of water and sewage networks, paving of roads, stairways and pedestrian access, construction of 192 housing units, rainwater drainage, slope containment, creation of leisure areas, installation of public equipment, modernization of public lighting, as well as social technical work and land regularization.

"Today, we are starting interventions here in the Complexo do Alemão in areas that have never had any kind of intervention, such as Capão, Travessa Laurinda, and Itararé. We will also leave a great legacy, which is Parque Everest, a major intervention covering more than 32 square meters. All this investment will bring much dignity to the population," said the Secretary of Housing, Claudio Dutra.

Located in the northern part of the city, the Complexo do Alemão is home to approximately 60 residents, in a total area of 3 million square meters. The works will be concentrated on Morro do Itararé, Travessa Laurinda, and Capão, one of the most vulnerable areas of the Complex.

These projects are part of Morar Carioca, the largest favela urbanization program in the country, created and maintained by the Rio de Janeiro City Hall to bring citizenship and dignity to a segment of the population living in vulnerable areas.

— Today we were in the territories presenting projects that represent important advances for the residents of Complexo do Alemão, opening this process of dialogue and participation from the beginning and reinforcing our role of listening to those who know the community — concluded Marlí Peçanha, sub-prefect of the Large Complexes.
