City Hall delivers a completely renovated market in Complexo do Alemão

The renovation project for the Joaquim de Queiroz Shopping Center in Complexo do Alemão was completed this Sunday (July 27). The space, one of the region's most important meeting and shopping spots, has been completely transformed to offer greater comfort, safety, and dignity to its residents. The project was executed by the Municipal Urbanization Company (Rio-Urbe), an agency affiliated with the Municipal Infrastructure Department.

The renovation included a complete overhaul of the bathrooms and deck area, which received new railings and porcelain and granite flooring. All service lighting was replaced, and the interior and exterior facades were painted, along with a complete overhaul of the electrical system, drainage, and gutters. Ceramic and translucent tiles were also replaced, and the main courtyard, guardrails, and the entire shopping center wall were painted. The area also received gym equipment to promote social interaction and encourage physical activity. The project cost approximately R$1,2 million.

"When we have a benefit like this, a market like this, it's crucial that the merchants and business owners themselves take care of this area. We'll take care of this space, treat it with care, and Rio's city hall renews its commitment to caring for the areas of the city that need our attention most," said Mayor Eduardo Paes.

In the West Zone, the mayor inaugurated the 55th Dom Jaime Câmara Carioca Community Kitchen in Padre Miguel. The 54 kitchens operating in the city had distributed 6.105.991 free meals to people experiencing food insecurity as of June of this year. The city's municipal government plans to open another 20 units throughout the city.

"People can't go without food. The Community Kitchen serves this purpose. It won't solve all the problems, but it's a relief and brings dignity to the population," said the mayor.

Subsequently, the city government, through the Municipal Housing Department, handed over Alvim Vieira do Amaral Square, located on Cristais Paulista Street in Campo Grande. Improvements included the restoration of the sports court and gardens, as well as the creation of a community area. Additionally, the square now features a children's playground, a gym, and a seniors' gym. The renovation also includes new vegetation, paving repairs, and the construction of retaining walls to ensure the safety and sustainability of the area's residents.

"It's our role to care for the entire city, but also to focus on those areas that need it most and have the most potential. Campo Grande is the locomotive of this train that is making Rio de Janeiro a better city," the mayor stated.
